This is not a smack thread! Please don't get this thread deleted.
I was wondering, if you just looked at concerts, which of the two stadiums has the edge? Which of the two venues has the hands-down better concert history? I don't know EVERY concert that has been performed at either venue. You have to help me, if there's something missing. But I managed to dig up: Clemson Memorial Stadium: Pink Floyd, May 12 1994 U2 in 1997 (Pop Mart) Rage Against the Machine in 1997 (Edit: opening for U2) Rolling Stones in 1989 Def Leppard in 1988 The Eagles in 1996 Ozzy Osbourne and Alice in Chains in 1992 Elton John & Billy Joel in 1992 George Strait, Tim McGraw, Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney, Mark Wills, and Joe Dee Messina in 1999 Williams Brice: Metallica & Guns N Roses, with Faith No More , Sept 7, 1992 U2 in 1992 (Zoo TV) (Public Enemy opening) Paul McCartney in 1993 Rolling Stones (Blind Melon opening), Sept 25, 1994 Willie Nelson, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, etc in 1996 (Farm Aid) Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, Gary Allen, and Luke Bryan in 2008 George Strait, Alan Jackson, Lonestar, Lee Ann Womack, Brad Paisley, Sara Evans (April 24, 2001) Also, you can consider sound of the venue, seating, etc. in your vote. [I have to say, before we even consider this, that the Grateful Dead played at the Coliseum on HALLOWEEN NIGHT 1985, which frankly blows this entire contest away, and it was the only time they ever played in South Carolina, but I'm going to stick to the original contest so that show doesn't count. Also, I found out that the fricking DOORS played the Coliseum in 1971, and Kiss on the Destroyer tour, and the Allman Brothers on the "Brothers & Sisters" tour in 1973, and SABBATH on the "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" tour, and to top it all off ELVIS. That's just scratching the surface of the badassness of the concerts at the Coliseum. So we beat Littlejohn hands down, but anyway.] Last edited by spareparts; 03-20-2013 at 07:56 AM. |

Faith No More played also that show with GNR and Metallica. I saw that concert, as well as, the Paul McCartney concert at WB...so WB gets my pick. I've never seen a concert at Memorial either though..so not much of a point of reference for me. Memorial having AIC and Rage is impressive though

Edit: Rage opened for U2 so, it was the same date. My bad. I didn't see the dates.
It was the Evil Empire tour ![]() |

Seen George Strait in both.
I will say this. A stadium named Death Valley has a cool sound to it for a concert venue

My dad went to Elton and Billy in Death Valley and he says that was the best show he's ever seen where multiple artists played.

Williams Brice was April of 2001 Clemson was March of 1999 The other times were CLA in 08, Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2000, and Raleigh (Carter Finley Stadium) in 1998. He was great. None of the lights and smoke as he said in Pure Country. Just him singing.

Just for the hell of it, I looked to see the closest Led Zeppelin ever got to South Carolina.
They played the Charlotte Coliseum in April 1970 (insane set list - all stuff from LZ I and II), the Greensboro Coliseum in January 1975 (even better set list, it's all stuff from Physical Graffiti) and again in May 1977 (don't ask). Plus they played LSU a couple of times. But we got the Dead. In 1985. |

The concert was pretty intense and the effects with the lights and pig thing was pretty cool, at least at the time. |

Off the top of my head, the list is missing Kenny's Poets and Pirates tour in 2008. It was the one where he broke his leg, but still performed. Totally awesome. We were right at the stage. Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, Gary Allen, and Luke Bryan were there, too.

but back to hank, what made it even better to me was that after he came out for the "encore" with the band, he went back backstage and then about 15 minutes later walked back out with his guitar and a bottle, had a stage hand walk out a stool with him, he said to us (there were prob less than 200 people left in the place at that time, and me and my friends had walked down front for the encore cause it had pretty much emptied out before that) "Guys, I want to play some more if thats ok with y'all" we said something along the lines of "Heck yeah" and he sat there, just him the guitar and the bottle, and drank and played pretty much all of his daddys songs...it was awesome

that's awesome. i've seen jr twice. one time was pretty good the other time he didn't come back for the encore. he's one of those hit or miss type of acts for sure.
