Default Garcia Interview

I know some of you guys are tired of hearing about Garcia, but I will always be a supporter and interested in what happens to him and wishing him the best. For others who may feel the same way, here is an interview posted yesterday.

It's clear that he now realizes the unique opportunity he had while at USC and how he failed to take full advantage of it. I hope things work out for Stephen.

Always loved SG. We all made mistakes in our past and squandered opertunities. Tho nothing like the ones he had, but I think we all can relate. I hope the best for him and hope to see him in the league one day soon.

Very good interview. One thing as fans I think we don't realize is how hard it is to be in the spotlight at such a young age. To have the media criticize everything about you at such a young age is difficult.

When I was that age in college, I know I would have struggled to handle all that attention and media circus. Wish the best for Garcia.

I feel it would be only fitting for the OP to get 5 Points for this thread. No more, no less.

Always good to hear how a former player is doing.

Great interview.
I'll always be a pro-garcia guy....I think people were WAY TOO hard on him at times for doing minor, stupid college things (ain't like he assaulted a woman, or ran over a coach with a jet ski, or got caught with prescription drugs without a prescription).

Me too. He was never arrested for weed possession, either.

I always liked him. My favorite memory is how he saved that ECU game after Connor almost threw it way after getting the start. Plus, the headset slings that Spurrier did when he threw interceptions are the best. I will always be convinced that drug test would never have been brought to light if the Gamecocks had won his last game.

I still think it was dirty pool for Hyman to pull a test right after SG lost his granddad and his starting job. At some point you've got to help a troubled kid, not wait for the perfect storm to drop something on him.

Thank you for posting, great read. Stephen Garcia was Steve Taneyhill 15 years later, the difference in media coverage and expectations of the program changed drastically in that time. Since Garcia has left the expectations of the program haven risen to new heights and the pressure on Shaw and Thompson has risen as well, nice to see that Garcia is helping fellow GAMECOCKS in handling the pressure that he knows got to him.

I know. He was a senior and only had a few games left anyway. That thing with the clock in that game still burns me up.

Kinda stinks he had to grow up in Columbia and through the media. Awesome that he realizes his mistakes and still gives credit to SOS and the coaches. Shows he has come a long way.

BCB: What advice would you give to the incoming freshmen QB's at Carolina?

SG: Tough one. Biggest advice is to stay the hell outta Five Points and stay focused. Once you're in the dog house, it is very difficult to get out.

Great advice! If only Garcia had followed it, we could have had a MUCH different outcome!

Me too but that's not what cost us that Auburn game. Garcia flat out sucked that day, whatever the external factors were. I was there and it was painful then and still is. Apart from the crash-and-burn senior year, I was always a fan of Garcia and regret he never lived up to his potential.
