Anyone know what to fish for and what's a popular catch. I got two poles loaded up. Any hints from the board would be helpful.

Mud Minnows, Finger Mullet and Jigs for Reds. Slot fish so be careful, it has a 15-23" limit.

From the beach, I usually caught a bunch of sand sharks and whiting- fishing with cut squid or shrimp.
You need to head to the creeks and inlets if you want to catch some quality fish like redfish, etc suggested above.

What kinda poles you got loaded up? If its a small baitcaster or spinner then a big spottail will destroy it. You'll probably never turn him.
Anyway, as everyone else said, spottail would be the most fun right now

I got two 8 foot slumber polls. Got some squid and shrimp for bait. I just called and got a 14 day licence for 8 bucks. Were waiting on the owner to come by and collect the money for renting the house. Were right here on Attict circle and E 9th st. The owner has some stuff for oysters and other things. He actually has a 4 seater bike we can ride. And I got turkey necks, kite string, and a net and two 5 gallon buckets. It's really nice here and its not to cold out.

Blue crabs... Tie twine or string to a chicken neck and throw in the surf. Wait 2-3 minutes and slowly pull neckbone back to shore. Have a net ready th scoop them up (hint: place net behind them and scoop towards shore). Place them in a cooler and cook.

tomorrow is supposed to get snotty. If you are on Folly try to find some of the rock groins to fish near. They will hold fish when the water is up around them. Not much happening in the surf just yet with big redfish. If you happen to see birds diving off the beach try to cast a bait into the school of bait they are on. I've heard some reports of a few schools of menhaden around but it's a little early for them to be thick. If you get the time take a walk out onto the Folly beach fishing pier, it's free to walk out on it. Get a look at what others are fishing for but more importantly, are they catching anything. Enjoy your stay in the Lowcountry. Make sure to stop at Taco Boy for a frozen Screwdriver if you get the chance

I'm dying to get some friends to go in on a charter trip out of Charleston harbor soon. The one time I went out there was extremely fun and we caught a load of grouper, trigger fish, a couple red snappers and a 40 lb amberjack. Hooked a 7ft shark, possibly a tiger, but couldn't land that big boy.

www.charlestonfishing.net
That is a boat called the Teaser2 out of Charleston/Mt Pleasant that could accommodate a group of 10-15 for a bottom fishing trip. It's not your old school head boat that runs about $75 per person though and packs 70 people on the boat. The Teaser is private with just your group on it. Expect to pay somewhere around $200 per person after you include a tip for the mate. Wait until the weather warms up and the bottom fishing opens ( if that ever happens).......Or if just a few of you want to go inshore and fish for big redfish and sharks in the summer I know a guy :) For those that don't know I run a charter business here in the Charleston area. www.advoutdoors.com end shameless self promotion |

It's a bit early to start surf fishing here. The water really needs to warm up more.
And a thumbs up to the Taco Boy suggestion. Good food and a scenic locale to hang out at. |

And I think it may have been the teaser I went on. I went in Marathon FL too, but on the cheap...it wasn't nearly as fun.

Without going into detail and hijacking this thread, the best time for big bull reds are the summer months from about mid june thru September, pm me for more details if you want to.
