Default Projected Depth Chart

Does anyone know where I can find a projected depth chart?

Or can us posters try to make one based on our speculations.

I will start but feel free to make changes or improvements as I am completely speculating here. I want to hear people's opinions and who's going to be awesome and who's going to shock us and ball out right away.

I'm putting a * by people I expect to fight for the starting position. (Obviously these are my opinions and I would like to hear others opinions.)

@ this point, I wouldn't put Shaq Roland on the first unit.
Still has yet to prove he can be a consistent WR when it counts.

Based on Spring so far and experience, I'd list KJ Brent or Kwinton Smith
ahead of Shaq. I'm not the coach and don't have 100% of the evaluation
but to me, Mike Davis would be the number one RB at this point.
Everything is pure speculation right now so there's no other position I'd
debate. I just don't think Shaq has proven he deserves the first unit
yet. And even though the battle is close between them, Mike Davis
is the better "determined" RB.... if anything would keep him out of the
#1 spot, it would be his blocking and picking up blitzes.

I don't think Deangelo Smith is on the team anymore.

Other than that, I think Connor Shaw will still be the starter until proven otherwise. So if this is your opening day day roster i think shaw starts at qb.

I don't think Byrd will start. I think Nick Jones will. I see you have the battling.

I think Kaleb Broome has already moved on.

For the most part I can see the rest of that happening.

To answer your initial question, USC has an official athletics website:

http://www.gamecocksonline.com/index.html

On their football page, they have an official spring camp depth chart:

http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/...ring-start.pdf

They probably won't update this depth chart until sometime during fall camp or just before the season opener. I would highly recommend bookmarking the athletics website, because it contains a TON of great Gamecock content about all USC sports, including stats, free post-practice videos, gametime info, etc....

The Rivals site for USC sports also has a projected depth chart that is pretty much the same thing:

http://southcarolina.rivals.com/cdep...eam=SOCAROLINA

Default Re: Projected Depth Chart

The official depth chart has both Will Sport and Brock Stadnick in the depth at both guard spots.....they have Gibson and Zandi backing up the tackle spots, but also have Matulis there and it's looking like he won't be a factor this season. Wouldn't surprise me to see Brock used at tackle as well....

If you call one Gerald Dixon, and the other Gerald Dixon Jr., then we'll know who you're talking about just by using the "Jr." designation. But for clarification, #44 Dixon (the DE) played with Clowney at South Pointe...and #92 Dixon Jr. (the DT) played at Northwestern...

Coach Ward has already stated that if the season started now, he'd have Lewis and Holloman as our starting LBs at Mike and Will. Rainey would probably be the 3rd guy up at this point, with Cooper still a ways away but could possibly be ready to play when the season begins. Incoming LBs will have to wait to show how they can contribute....

Here is a quote on twitter from Scott Hood.... Did anyone hear this interview? The comments were from the call in show last Thursday.

Scott Hood ‏@ScottHood63 4 Apr
SOS reiterates Connor Shaw will be the starting QB next season, but that Dylan Thompson will play. Just like several yrs at Florida.

Based on the Shrine Bowl, I hope Cooper is tried out at PR when he arrives for fall practice.

I agree with your QB assessment. I think Spurrier will avoid naming one permanent starter. He's a smart guy, and that would be the smartest move. In one of his interviews after practice this week, he said that running the ball too much was easier for the opposing defenses, and that he was going to change our offense. He said that a passing offense offered more options. That tells me he plans to give Thompson a good bit of time. I have listened to all of his interviews. I tried to find backup for the comment made on twitter. The tweet is there, but there is no mention of the statement on the internet, and there is no link in the tweet.

Another thing - any time the QBs are mentioned, the win-loss record is brought up. Just for curiosity, I tried to find win-loss records for the best quarterbacks USC has ever had to see if there was any chance of breaking that record this coming season. There aren't any QB win-loss records, because it's a team stat, not an individual one. Todd Ellis is called the "winningest quarterback," but I can't find his win-loss record.

It's comparable to giving the point guard the win in basketball, or the forward in soccer. I know that baseball is different, but no other team sport I can think of gives the win to one player's stats.

The Outback Bowl was a sneak peak at what the offense would look like this year.

I know this is your opinion and all, but Shaw will be the starting QB as stated earlier. Mitch will RS, which leaves Nosovitch as our 3rd QB. Brock is a guard and he'll be behind Cann, which leaves Matulis (if healthy) behind Robinson, if not then Mason will take Matulis place. Also, if Rainey is a starter, then C. Cooper (if healthy) will be behind him, if not then Holloman will take his place, not a walk-on. There's also a small chance Walton may come on and get some playing time as well, so we can't count him out just yet.

Win-loss records as the starting QB has been used for decades in both college FB as well as the NFL....it is a team sport, but win-loss records as starting QB gives an immediate idea of a particular QB's experience being at the helm of a FB team in games, and not just a clipboard-carrying spectator on the sidelines. It automatically implies the QB's toughness and ability to lead the offense - and team since the QB is typically considered, well the quarterback of the team - in critical moments of important games. It's always been this way:

Quote:
GARCIA'S BACK: Fifth-year senior Stephen Garcia is back for his final campaign. The 6-2, 232-pounder from Lutz, Fla. already ranks statistically among the top 5 quarterbacks in South Carolina history (see chart below). He is 17-13 in 30 career starts and has made 28 consecutive starts. Only Todd Ellis (24) and Steve Taneyhill (20) have won more games as a starting quarterback for the Garnet & Black. Garcia is the SEC active leader in total offense, touchdown responsibility, pass completions, passing yards and touchdown passes.

IF NOT GARCIA, THEN SHAW: Sophomore quarterback Connor Shaw is expected to see playing time as well. Shaw, a 6-1, 204-pounder from Flowery Branch, Ga., saw action in nine games last season, completing 23-of-33 passes for 223 yards.

Garcia would go on to start 4 games in 2011 (UGA, Navy, Vandy, Auburn) and end with a 3-1 record as starter, and therefore 20-14 overall during his career at USC. This tied him for 2nd all-time at USC behind only Ellis.

If you look up the official athletic website profiles for Garcia, Shaw, even Blake Mitchell you will see their win-loss records as starting QBs at USC. Even Chris Smelley has his listed. You'll find similar stats kept for most other college QBs over the years as well, for all programs across the nation.....

Connor currently has a 17-3 record as starting QB at USC. He needs 7 more wins to tie Ellis, and 8 to set the new all-time record. It would be very cool if he achieved it....

The tweet from Scott Hood came from Spurrier's call in show last thursday. I didn't hear the call in show so I can't 100% verify anything. But I also know that Scott Hood has been writing about the Gamecocks for many years now and he doesn't usually "opnionize" his comments. Not sure why he would tweet something out that Spurrier said if it wasn't accurate. That isn't like Scott. He was tweeting as the call in show went on so he had just heard the comments and sent the tweet.

Brent and Smith don't play Shaq Roland's spot. The X receiver is going to be either Roland or Jeffery and it sounds like its going to be a toss up until Fall practice unless one of them blows up this weekend.

My guess:

QB - Shaw / Thompson
RB - Wilds / Davis
FB - McLaurin
WR X - Roland / Jeffery
WR Z - Ellington / Byrd
WR B - Jones / Brent
TE - Anderson / Adams
RT - Shell / Gibson
RG - Patrick / B. Stadnik
C - Waldrop / Ford
LG - Cann / Park
LT - Robinson / Zandi

DE - Clowney / English
3T - Quarles / Green
NT - Surratt / Dixon, Jr.
DE - Sutton / Dixon
MIKE - Lewis / Rainey
WILL - Holloman / Cooper (until healthy)
SPUR - Diggs / Golightly or Bryant/Moore
CB - Hampton / McWilliams
FS - Elder / Gurley (until healthy)
BS - Williams / Marcus
CB - Legree / Christian (if he returns) or Martin

P - Hull
PK - Ard / St. Germain

PR - Ellington or Hampton / P. Cooper
KR - Ellington

I probably have the defensive back reserves incorrect. Grady and Lorenzo keep switching them around. Also not 100% sure which Guard spot Park is practicing at. Might be Will Sport ahead of him.

So Cann is switching guard spots? He's been at Left Guard for the majority of his time here.
