Redundant. Spaghetti is a type of noodle. They have different names based on shape. Particular shapes are best for certain purposes. As far as brands go it is the same as anything else. Sometimes quality costs more. Other times you just pay more for a name. I think that most boxed plain pastas taste about the same. Fresh pastas are different and brand choice would be more important. Stuffed pastas such as ravioli definitely vary by brand. In the end if I am just buying a plain pasta a grocery store brand like Barilla works just fine. Some gourmets think otherwise. I don't really eat enoghh to know the distinctions. Check out taste reviews here: http://www.realsimple.com/food-recip...694/index.html

Sometimes there are slight differences in nutritional value. I usually buy Barilla or their "whole grain" line if i want something a little healthier. For most basic staples I usually get mid-range brands and products unless there is a store brand I am familiar with.

Homemade pasta is the best! My husband, son and I used to make the pasta and then hang it to dry on the bar stools in the kitchen. Ravioli also. It was a fun and inexpensive activity to do with a child. They can make their own shapes.

Publix sells pasta in a refrigerated section by the pimetto cheese. It taste very good.

When u cook pasta, make sure u boil the water first and cook it about 30 secs to 1 min. under the directions.

Yes, there is a difference in the ingredients. My wife took a tour of the International Pasta plant here in Columbia and they covered this very topic. I can't remember what key ingredients they cut out for the cheaper pasta, but there are a couple. If I remember correctly the ingredients had more to do with consistency than taste.

I usually buy organic pasta. Lately, I've been buying the Bionaturae brand at Earth Fare. When I have time, I prefer to make my own.

De Cecco? I knew a man named De Cecco (De Cheek-o). He worked as a small electronics repair man. Had a big head. Haven't seen him in a while. The electronics shop owner raved about him though - he could fix anything!

I cant tell a difference in the taste, but can tell a difference in the "texture/density" of the whole grain, it almost feels "al Dente" even tho its fully cooked...which I like, so it works out...I also prefer Penne pasta with my "spagetti" sauce instead of traditional spagetti or angel hair. I like a heavy (not watery) sauce and the whole grain penne seems to hold the sauce much better than the other two types

I like making my own. Some use eggs, some don't. If the sauce is thicker, go with a bigger noodle. A good Cuisinart makes it easy. I have done another pasta like carb using potato called gnocchi.
My favorite place to visit is Italy. It is too bad I can't afford to go yearly. I eat pasta to carb load before I run.
