Default How has your music taste changed?

I thought this would be interesting. Post a song that you used to love, maybe as a kid or just when you were younger, and then post a song you love now.

Then:

Now:

*To be fair, I still love the first song, I just don't listen to it much.

I used to not care what I listened to...NWA, 2 Live Crew, Metallica, etc.

I then started listening to music that was uplifting and found that I was more peaceful, not as aggressive and defensive. I needed to listen to things that actually made me reflect on what is good in my life.

Tomlin, Chapman, Smith, etc. is who I listen to now

Seeing as I have a few decades on most of y'all this wlil take a bit more time and posts. When I was a young teen it was beach music:

Then came the Brit invasion:

That quickly led to my immersion into psychedelia:

From there I spent my time with some good ol' rock & roll:

When I moved to the islands I lived that genre:

I'm a Parrot head to this day:

This pirate looks at 60 now. :(

For all of you Cocky Talk gals:

Even the country that we used to disdain began to appeal to me:

Today I find myself oft times listening to the very old, the very new, and mostly jazz, both in instrumental and vocal versions.

By ancient I mean 30s to 50s, not Roman.

By vocal jazz I mean a wide range of:

No one, and I mean NO ONE ca top the career Sinatra had.

I of times find myself rocking with the blues too. Check out my local Saturday night blues radio channel: http://www.smokestacklightnin.com/

It isn't just any of this either. I enjoy hanging out in CT's music thread. I post a song now and then but I more frequently listen to the newer music that y'all post. You people keep me up to date. You keep me musically relevant, educated, and involved. That and my chronic Peter Pan syndrome. I listen to some live stuff too, like this local Columbia metal band. Gina, the lead singer, is a hottie. Some things never change with me.

First off, a big thank you to Acock for dropping that King Crimson here. Now, I don't have to.

Personally, my tastes have traveled far and wide. My first love in music was probably Michael Jackson's Thriller, but that soon turned to the early period of hip-hop, then when puberty began to hit, I went all metal, which evolved into Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, and similar 70s stoner rock as I started high school, along with the more "alternative" heavy stuff around at the time like Jane's Addiction, Bad Brains, Fugazi, Pixies, Melvins, Voivod, etc. I think I fell in love with the Beatles some time around here, too. With that turn, my tastes mellowed and matured a little, so I added prog, jazz, jam, and some weird instrumental stuff to my rotation. By this time, I was a half-way serious musician, so my appetite for new sounds grew. In college, I got into some of the more interesting new wave and angular rock (see the Crimson above). But, throughout all of that, I had some consistent favorites, including early Blue Oyster Cult (first 3 albums), the original Alice Cooper band (1969-1974), King Crimson, Kinks, and of course the Beatles.

These days, I can get into anything for the most part, as long as it was inspired and had a sense of musical adventure. So, with that said, I start with a portrait of me at 8 years old, except I was a white kid in Anderson, SC.

The recent interest is a tougher one to pick. So, I'll just do what I was listening to today (albeit recorded by the modern group Raymond Scott Orchestrette). This footage rocks.

Or maybe some new would be better.
