Default Connor Shaw skydiving during offseason

College Football Live was reporting that tonight so I guess Connor's foot is in good shape now. Kendall called in and said the skydiving had to do with Connor's love for the military. Kendall also said Shaw was the clear starter but that Dylan would get his reps. The panel (Millen and May) also said to expect the two qb system going forward. Millen also mentioned Nosovitch as a capable qb.

I don't expect Nosovitch to get any meaningful playing time. Unless its due to injury.

No doubt. Just recapping what was said. Shaw and Thompson are the only qb's that will play regularly.

My hope is that we will see Nosovitch on the field "some" In a few games
even if it is, mop up duty. It would be a way to get a decent QB some
reps and some battle scars before next season when he will be hounded
by Connor Mitch for the backup role to Dylan Thompson... However, from
what I've seen and heard so far, don't be surprised if Mitch isn't getting
a lot of PT next season in conjunction with Dylan, much like what we're
doing with Shaw and Thompson this year. .... I have a feeling we are
watching the making of USC's best QB ever in Connor Mitch. Can't wait
until that kid get's his shot at running the offense.

I'm really happy that this team is full of dedicated players willing to work their butts off from winter to fall and we don't have to worry about players getting into trouble and suspended (anymore).

I don't think this 2 QB system is going to last long. And it's not really a 2 QB system. It's Connor is still getting 70%-80% of the snaps as long as he is healthy and playing well. If Connor didnt weak his foot, Dylan probably doesn't play down the stretch against Michigan. That game was going to be Connor's to win/lose.

A 2 QB system is Johnson/Palmer, Grossman/Brindise, Smelley/Garcia and most of those ended in disaster.

Aw man, that Arkansas game with Smelley and Garcia literally switching snaps, I for sure thought Spurrier had lost his mind and was going to quit any day.

I think the two QB system statement is being overstated. Sure, both will play, but it's not going to be a situation where each one is playing every other drive. Dylan will get his fair share of time this year, but Connor is the guy. Just have to hope he stays healthy and the OL can hold up, because I think he's capable of slinging it around if he has the time.

Agreed that it isn't really the quintessential two QB system that everyone
pictures in their minds when you talk about that kind of system. And
even last year in the couple of games were Connor was Healthy "enough"
to play along with Dylan, Shaw got the lion's share of snaps in those
games. Even in the Outback Bowl after Dylan had just finished a
masterpiece game against Clemson, Shaw was the starter in the next
game, and got the majority of snaps. This is the reason that I respond
to post that say Thompson will start either this coming season, or at
some point in that season. If Spurrier feels even the slightest bit of
hesitation starting Connor because of the work Thompson has shown,
Shaw would have been on the bench at the start of the Outback Bowl,
and would have seen limited action in that game. ..... I'll even go as
far to say, had Shaw not gotten hurt on that play during that last
drive in the OB Bowl, Thompson would not have seen a snap on that
final drive and it may have ended in several other different scenarios.

However,
I'm not sure we've seen the last of the Two QB system, or will shortly.
I've seen enough from Coach Spurrier the past 8 years to realize that he
has made a lot of changes in his approach to the game either out of
necessity because of the situation here at Carolina, or out of trying to
change with the times and stay current with the trends in College Football.
He admittedly, didn't care for the Zone Read / Read Option
offense, but has adopted it as the base of our offense mainly because
of the recruitment of Lattimore. It is the offense most of the High Schools
are running now, and if we are going to continue going after the top
talent at any offensive positions, then we will need to be running that
type offense in some form here. He's done that over the past few years.
He's never been a "Heavy Run" type coach, or a possession type scheme
coach on offense, but in the past 3-4 years, we've become a better
offense when we lean on the ground attack, and went with the shorter,
passing game (tunnel screens, WR screens, slants, drag routes, or
wheel routes), and less of the Big Play type passes that Spurrier has
been known to run in the past. I know he's never been the "mad bomber"
type of coach that he was saddled being when he came here, but he
was never a grind it out, eat the clock type coach either, and he's more
of that type now, than the quick strike, home run type.

With the success he's getting now out of playing both Shaw and Thompson,
and already saying it's going to be that way again this coming season,
I get the feeling he's more open to using both QBs a lot now, rather than
just taking one out when he's pissed because the other can't seem to
play well for a play or two or even a game or so, only to re-insert the
other later. ... He's is now genuinely open to playing both every game,
and playing both a lot every game, and even being able to start one
above the other "Just Because" ..... If you are right as to what you've
hears (that Nosovitch is going to be GOOD), and I'm correct by what
I've seen watching Mitch develop, and from what I've heard, then we
could still well be seeing two QBs on our depth charts who are capable
of starting for this team or many others, and playing at or above the
same levels that Shaw and Thompson are right now......IF THAT IS
THE CASE, I wouldn't think Spurrier would regress to using One QB
alone except for "mop up duty" or "when it's convenient". We could
be seeing the standard for what Spurrier will do with multiple Good
QBs on the depth chart, for a few years to come.

Agree.
Somehow I think SOS is proud of his ability to adjust and find new ways to win and this includes his approach and relationships with his QBs. I believe bringing on G.A. Mangus has made a big difference and of course is the reason we are getting better QBs that just a few years ago.

When Connor uses up all his eligibility in Jan '14, he'll be the first QB that SOS has recruited that did just that. Stephen Garcia almost made it. That stat speaks volumes.

I also think above all else, Steve wants to win and will do whatever it takes...including running zone plays that weren't in his original playbook back in '05.

I see Dylan as something like a reliever...and if Connor is not hitting it, Dylan gets his shot. This is a win-win and I think everyone involved has bought into it....whatever it takes to win. This is why I think both Connor and Dylan go to the SEC media days...and I think Steve will be grinning to have both of them there.
