Default Bass Fishing

I have two addictions, the Gamecocks, and fishing. Any avid fishermen here on CT, particularly bass? Here's a few I've caught this year that were big enough to warrant a picture...

Those are some fine specimens! I fish some but mostly bream, a few bass. Just recently learned to work plastic lures properly. My brother is better than I am.

The last one on the bottom was caught today, 8 3/4 lb on digital readout scale, and all of them catch and release... I'm waitin on my ten plus to mount...

They were all caught on soft plastics. A few caught using a weightless 4/0 worm hook with a zoom trick worm texas rigged, a couple of the larger ones caught on a crappie jig (1/16 oz jig head rigged with blue/white grub) on a light action crappie rod which i dont wanna do again, and the biggest ones caught using a 1/4 oz jig head with a white 4" curly tailed grub.

Default Re: Bass Fishing

A post on my current tackle...

I have four rods, one 6'6 medium action bass spinning rod which I use for finesse situations with light tackle that is a pain to throw with the baitcaster.

A 7' ultra light action spinning rod I use for crappie/perch/small bass, though here lately I've pulled some large bass in with it. Get really nervous when I get a big bass on the line with this one because the rod bends an ungodly amount and the reel seat arm begins to flex when trying to reel, and it cant be good on the gears.

A 7' medium action casting rod which I use for bass in a variety of fishing techniques, its basically my go to rig because i can throw almost everything easily, except for lightweight baits and lures.

a 7'6 medium heavy action casting rod, fat backbone which I use for fishing in heavy cover, lily pads and stumps. Usually I throw jig and pigs and heavier lures with this.

I have an extensive bait selection, probably 100 or so bags of various soft plastics, a variety of hardbaits that i dont use much unless the situation calls for it, and a box of topwater lures that get a bit of action.

I caught one several years ago that weighed in at 11 lbs even at the taxidermist. Caught it in a farm pond of all places. Had it mounted on a pc of drift wood. The taxidermist originally tied a line to the drift wood down to a zoom worm hooked in it's mouth. I found a guy online who makes lures out of balsa and hand paints them. He painted one up in Gamecock colors for me and I replaced the worm with it. Everyone that sees it asks if I caught it on that Gamecock lure.

Went last night in a pond near my house. Used the shaky head worms. Bass can't stand them in that pond. Hit them pretty hard.

I like to fish, just haven't been able to do it much in a long, long time. Never was a bass fisher, though (but those are some fine looking fish in your pics!). I grew up putting any and everything on a hook hanging from a cane pole fishing on river banks so never really learned the ins and outs of bigger and better fishing. Still try to do some grabbling (noodling) when I get back home, but its been a while since I did that, too.

This... I wanna try. I would have some crappie pics, but I catch and release and I believe the smaller the fish the shorter amount of time you can keep it out of water.

Oh, and I ABSOLUTELY cannot wait until baby Jade gets big enough to take fishing.

Don't blame you. I actually wish I had thrown that one back. It was still breathing when out in the scales at the taxidermist about two hours after I caught it. I think about that about every time I look at that fish.

Well, my figure is 12 lbs... I read somewhere once that an avid fisherman (they used 50 days a year to gauge avid) fishing in the US would go through four lifetimes of fishing days to catch a 12+ lb largemouth bass. Of course the odds increase if you fish in the traditional big bass lakes, but still, thats like coming home from a hunting trip with a Jackalope.
