Default Practice

Something I've noticed from Spurrier this year. Usually he downplays everything and makes it sound as if we're just God awful out there. He's had not one bad thing to say about us in practice. That leads me to believe one thing, were really, really good.

NOt wanting to beat a dead horse, but think back last Spring and Fall
and try to remember what he said bad about the team ?

Fact:
Since Stephen Garcia left the team, he has not made bad remarks about
any of his QBs, or other members of the team. The occasional.. "line's
gotta play a little better" or "Hopefully we can run it (pass it) a little
better this week" ..... but none of the flat out criticism or sarcastic jokes
aimed at the QB or any other members of the team.

When you have players and especially leaders of the team "grounded"
and guys who put in the extra work, and put their team mates ahead
of their own personal "wants" .... There is not a lot of bad "mojo" on the
team to talk badly about.

Looks like I spoke too soon. After practice, he said were not where we need to be offensively.

Yeah. Sounds like we had a rough night snapping ball to the QBs. He said not to panic b.c doesn't want to peak too soon. We'll be fine.

And he basically said this kind of stuff tonight in his post-practice presser.....said we had trouble snapping the ball back to QBs, poor pass-protection, generally sloppy. Said that about the offense mainly...he said the defense was good and "ran around and did some good things".

But this isn't out of the ordinary we've seen in recent fall camps: there'll be some positive practices mixed in with some not-so positive practices (Spurrier's post-presser for Wednesday's practice was relatively positive - he also said that they went longer for their practice Wed's than previous practices, so perhaps tonight's practice was a bit sloggy as a result).

We'll have some more positive practice reports the rest of fall, and most likely will have a few more blah practice reports. Hopefully we have more of the former than the latter, and definitely have mostly positive practices once game week for UNC comes up....

Default Re: Practice

We're in a position right now where it's really hard to tell where the
Offensive line is or will be..... Even if practices were open, you'd still
have some doubt. Our defensive front is ranked going into this season
as one of the top D/Lines in the country. So if the O/Line is getting
dominated at practice, that may be, because we are just going to be
that strong this year. Sort of like our not having anybody that can
handle Clowney. ....... But you'd like to think that after a few years of
working with the D/line we have, that we would at least play pretty
strong on the O/line even in practices.
The high snap thing has me worried some. We are replacing TJ Johnson
with a freshman, and his backup is a redshirt freshman as well. If it's true
and we are going to run a lot more from the pistol formation, then we
need to have good, consistent snaps from our center. I'm sure they're in
full pads by now, so it's starting to get more like real game situations
during practice. ... Don't like hearing that the line is having major issues
now that they are ramping up the practices.

It was the the backup guys that were having the trouble...not the first string.

to me the oline is going to be the biggest question mark. i have to agree with spurt about facing our dline that at least the oline would be in a better position than what we are hearing now. hopefully this was just a bad practice, because i don't want to see this repeated very much.

Looks like offense looks pretty terrible right now...then again look at the defense they are up against each snap.

One thing is for sure, if they can look good against our defense then we should be in excellent shape. 3 more weeks....

Hey, cp, how are you liking that Longhorn Network out Texas way? LOL.

May I suggest that the word you're searching for to describe SOS might be 'laconic', and may I say I agree with everything you just said.

And watch out for those ten-gallon hats and pointy-toed shoes.
