Default Hypothetical

I am pretty sure that we all on here loves Marcus Lattimore for what he represents as, not only a Gamecock, but as a man. His dedication to faith, family, friends, teammates, fans, and craft, is a motivator for us all... But I am just curious to see what you guys think... If Marcus did not go through the adversity of being injured in his 3 years at USC, where would he have been as a player, a man, and a role model? Do you think he would have won more awards? Do you think he would have lead us to the National Championship game? I'm just curious to see what you guys think.

Def. would've won more awards, maybe a SEC East again. But RB'S after Marcus wasn't a big concern

He would've won the Heisman in 2011 in he had not gotten injured. He had 800 yards (10 TD) in 6.5 games in that season. He would've easily had not only at least 1500 yards rushing, but probably 19-20 TD's with a YPC close to 5 and being the KEY reason we won every game. I also think with Marcus Lattimore we beat Arkansas and finish the season by playing in the SEC Championship - with a chance to play for the National Title. I think we beat LSU with Marcus in the Dome, and play for the National Title against Alabama.

Marcus would've had probably 1700 rushing yards with 300 receiving yards with 20~ touchdowns and been the primary reason we won every game we won.

Sucks the injuries happened.

Would have been nice to see him have a good game v. taters. The only time Marcus played them, we went conservative due to the SECCG the following week.

I don't know if we'd have won the east, how many games did we lose without him? One I think, and I'm not sure we would have beaten Arky on the road even with him that year although its possible but offense wasn't the problem that game, we gave up 44pts.

We don't give up 44 points if we have Marcus. One of the overlooked aspects of football is the corrollation between offense and defense.
Proponents of the HUNH offense keep wondering why their teams don't have good defenses. Well, if your team is speeding up the game, it results in more plays and possessions, and that means more plays and possessions for the other team. The other side is that controlling the ball and time of possession frustrates HUNH offenses and results inpoor offensive performances.

With Marcus, we play ball control and keep the Hogs off the field. Not only that, the team played with more confidence when Marcus was healthy - think back to our poor efforts against Kentucky and Florida State after Marcus went down, and even the way we sleep-walked against Tennessee last year.

True, I may have overlooked the leadership aspect, but I don't think we deviated from the game plan too much that year when Wilds became the starter. I guess we will never know for sure.

He would have had an awesome year, but I don't think he beats RG3 for the Heisman. It really seems hard to win it as a running back anymore.

Unless Marcus went out and played cornerback or safety against Arky in that road game n 2011, the game would have come out the same. We couldn't stop them except when DT intercepted that pass and took it to the house. We didn't lose a game last year after Marcus went down so it didn't matter in 2012.

Agree.
And Arky shut Marcus down in '10. People don't want to give them credit for have a better team both years. They knew they could beat our OL with their DL and that's exactly what they did.

I agree with just about all this. Arky and that offense just had our number. We could have definitely used ML to hold the ball more and keep it out of their hands, who knows. We just got torched in the secondary during that one.

Too many factors of why the Arky game didn't go well. First and foremost Beckett, he was in our backfield the whole night the blockers on the right were not doing a good job keeping him away from Shaw. Second we lacked depth at SPUR, and the second guy(forgot name) wasn't nearly as good as AA. Finally letting their QB get comfortable in the pocket. He's a slinger and you don't let those guys get comfortable. You keep on them the whole night and you make them pay what they owe, Look up 2011 BAMA vs ARKY for references of what a front 7 is supposed to do to a slinger QB.

That was a huge reason, right there. Allen spent most of his final year being woefully underrated at that position. I believe it was DaMario Jeffery that spelled him for that game, and was ill suited for the task.

Once DeVonte Holloman went down with a concussion we lost that game. That injury, and the fumble at the 50 yard line was crucial. DeMario Jeffery couldn't cover a TE or WR so they just attacked him all night.

Just a train wreck. Yet our RB's were like 16 carries for 40 yards. Marcus would've definitely helped and you never know how much he would've helped. He single handely won us games against Georgia and Florida before so it would've been really neat to see.
