Default Offensive gameplan for UNC?

Since the last scrimmage had Spurrier complaining about the pass blocking, do you folks think the gameplan for the offense against UNC will be really run-heavy?

In spite of what was apparently a poor performance by the OL in pass protection, the running backs managed to gain good yardage in the scrimmage. In fact, the running game has worked pretty well in both scrimmages. And since UNC uses an offense that is predicated on speed that is meant to wear out the defense, I believe running the ball more should be expected to help rest the defense, if necessary.

Thoughts?

It'll probably be somewhat vanilla. Always is.

I do however think Spurrier will come out firing to see what his offense has that night. Results of the first handful of series will determine the rest of the game probably.

Also, worst case scenario, if the Heels are clicking on offense it might force Spurrier to go score for score.

USC has to get up on UNC to get them to lengthen their routes which will allow Clowney and company more time to get to Renner.

Get as a lead as possible then go conservative and hold the ball as long as possible.

It won't be run - heavy. It will be balanced, but I do think we should run more than pass.

I think you will see a game plan that resembles the one we have used versus the tiggers the last couple of seasons. After all, they run very similar offenses. They want to spread you out on offense, and go really fast- forcing your defense to play base, play after play-which makes it easy on the OC to call plays and catch guys out of position. However, what we've seen in the past, is a balanced approach by our offense to use the run when we can and try to stay ahead of the chains, making it easier to convert 3rd downs by not being in "drop back" and sling it mentality on third. This keeps the defense from being pass rush heavy and having to play the chains, instead of pin their ears back, which makes it hard on the OL to pass block. Stay ahead of the chains on first and second, convert short to medium third downs and keep our defense off the field. Take a shot when the opportunity comes and make it count! That's our recipe.

We will start out like we did vs ECU a few years back, take a deep shot early in the game and go from there

The UNC secondary is the weak part of their D. I imagine SOS will attack their weakness at least early. Once we get up on them, I expect us to go run heavy. I expect a good bit of passing early on. Our OL should be able to hold its own against the UNC DL. I expect quite of bit of crossing routes and drag routes with the TEs since that is our strength. get our big guys running in space with their weak secondary.

Try to establish a lead, then ball control with short passes/runs. I don't think we'll see anything out of the ordinary unless the game is not going our way/UNC jumps out in front. I don't expect much in the pocket passing game.

UNC can put up points (avg'd 41 per game last year). They like to spread you out and speed it up.

Hopefully our O can eat clock and keep them off the field like we did against Clemson last year.

I think we could run it on them and control the game to minimize risk. If this game was in like week 10 I think we'd be more apt to do that, but we'll probably try and open it up and see if we can execute offense in the manner spurrier would like. It could be fairly sloppy like the last few seasons have been while we're trying to figure out "who we are".
