Default OL/DL Technique Question

This is not a critique of our trenches, but rather an observation, especially with our DEs & OLs.

I was always taught low man wins. I teach that to young kids and I know it works in little league & middle school ball. It looks like we have a lot of guys hitting their opposing linemen from a vertical position. Is this a different technique because of size, strength and speed? I also understand pass blocking and zone blocking create a slightly different technique than hitting your guy off the ball when it is snapped say on a run play & just trying to get under him and drive him back. (Sorry for the run on sentence). I did not play college ball, so I truthfully do not know and I never really was looking at it analytically until Thursday's game. It seemed we had more of it than I have noticed in the past.

Frankly, Clowney was one of those guys. Who am I to question his technique, right? However, he is also 3-4 inches taller than many of the guys he faces, so I am sure it is easier said than done.

On another note, I was pleased with the overall product Thursday night considering the heat ad Clowney's illness.

An example...I watched this play ten or so times. We should have blown them off the ball.

When clowney gets tired or un motivated or whatever he gets more vertical and is easier to stop. See michgan and tenessee games last year. Arguably his worst games those tackles got under him and stood him up for much of game
