Default What's at stake?

This is something I've been thinking about during the offseason and finally took the time to verify by going through all the different results/schedules the past two or three years.

The two (current) Top 25 teams with the longest HOME win streaks are Georgia and South Carolina. Georgia has 14 consecutive Wins at home (last home loss was back in 2011 when we beat them 45-42). The Gamecocks have 12 consecutive wins (our last home loss was the same year to Auburn). The next best win streak is Notre Dame with 10.

Cool stat. Didn't realize that. Also 4 in a row vs. Georgia and Clemson at the same damn time.

Going for the obvious... leg up in the SEC East race and winning 4 in a row vs Georgia, which has never been done before.

Oh, and Georgia will lose to us and become 0-2. Thats always good.

if the past two years have taught us anything it is that the winner of this game does not necessarily make it to Atlanta for the SEC Championship. so as much of a advantage this would be it is not critical to winning the SEC this year.

What is certainly does is makes the Clemson game either much more important of a win for them or much less important than a win for them.

Also if Richt loses to us and LSU he might not make it through the middle of October as a coach that will impact recruiting and the entire SEC East balance in terms of tenure of coaching.

so a lot is on the line but a lot also not on the line there are too many variables past this point to really say anything about this one game.

When you look at the schedule every year, we see about 2 teams on
the schedule that are considered crucial matchups if we are going to win
the Eastern Conference and go to Atlanta in December. AND...since we've
been in the SEC and had a team that could contend, we have always lost
to at least one of those opponents and eventually watched another team
take the conference. .... Last year it was LSU and Florida, The year before
it was Auburn and Arkansas, The year before we actually won the East
in spite of losing a couple of SEC Games, in 2009 it was UGA and Alabama
etc.... With a schedule that is finally favorable to our goals, you can say
that this year's UGA game is the "LSU GAME" of last year. We still have
a big matchup down the road (Florida). Yes, there's a lot of upset possibilities
and no one really knows how teams like Arkansas, UT, Miss St etc..
will develop and they could mess things up, BUT all things going according
to your goals, .. This game could well be that "HUMP" that we need to
get over in order to become a solid representative in Atlanta in December
as the Eastern Conf. Champion. In terms of the 2013 schedule, this game
is HUGE when you look at the Big Picture. We need to take this one and
firmly establish ourselves as the leaders of the Eastern Conference and
keep things in our corner, and be the ones in control of our destiny this
year.

This mostly. If we don't win both our top 2 rivals will (at least temporarily) be making fun of us.

Well, one game and a head to head tie breaker. But honestly, if we beat them, I will take that as a sign that they are going to have their hands full with LSU and Florida.
