I have not and I am a little scared, but curious about rooting my samsung g3. I hear that rooting will improve your battery life so much that it is worth the risk. I'd like to hear what the guys on here have to say.

Yeah me too. I am just scared of bricking my phone. But I may risk it to stop all those damn apps running eating away at my battery.

Do it. It isn't that hard and doesn't take too long. You can always reset it to factory.

Will change anything on my phone when I do it? Will I lose all my apps, contacts, etc.?

Yes it will wipe your current drive. Some android apps sync with Google account and will come back but anything that doesn't you'll want to back up.

You are really at no risk of bricking you device is all you do is just root it. The real risk comes in installing custom roms and kernels, and that's only a small small risk.

If I root it, when I turn my phone off or if it dies, do I have to root again? I know there was stuff on tethered vs. untethered jailbreaking on the iPhone, is it the same with Android?

Almost all root methods are perma root. Very rarely do you come across a temporary root where you would have to redo it if the device shuts down.

I've Youtubed and Googled it, do you have any advice for the best way to do it? I'm really nervous, but I want to get rid of this bloatware as others have stated.

I have rooted 2 different androids. Some phones can be more difficult than others depending on the manufacturer.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php?tab=all

search for your phone on XDA forums. There should be a step by step how to. There should also be custom roms should you decide to go that route.

Titanium Backup. As for apps you have, just open the market and any app you have ever downloaded will be there. This works same way if you change phones.

You know its really hard for me to trust anyone from Athens - Just Joking! God I hate them dawgs. I live in Savannah and they are so rubbing it in. I couldn't rub it in the past 3 years because they get so butt hurt! My inlaws are all damn dawg grads and even bigger fans. I don't know if you like the dawgs and sorry if I offended you but it sucks having to listen to them gloat here now after I didn't say anything to them cause I was scared of making them cry.

Trust me... I know! I work at UGA and Vince Dooley's great nephew works for me, so I hear it...

Haha I know it's tough - right? Met Vince a few times and he seems to be a real stand up guy.

I have lunch usually once a week with Sonny Sieler (Uga's & Russ's owner)and we have a great time together, but Swann his daughter is the one the gives me crap but only good hearted. Most other dawg fans are just big babies and most didn't even go to school there. They can dish it out but damn they sure can't take it. I feel for you up there with all those cry babies up there. No way I could ever do that!

Gonna try the root maybe tomorrow or Monday. Relaxing out at Tybee this weekend. Gonna wait until I get home before I do this cause I will probably screw it up some how. LOL

If you are just looking to side load apps you do not need to root the phone. Just do this: http://31.media.tumblr.com/05c227283...cfxro2_250.gif

2000 Grad and Schecter - Have you rooted your phone yet? My mom passed away last week so this was put on hold for me and yesterday I started to do it but I got cold feet. Not sure why but just read in one of the forums to make sure you use the right ROM with your provider or it could cause problems.
