Default Shaw on pace for very good season

Just looking at averages, Connor Shaw may be looking at one of the best seasons a QB has ever had here at USC.

Currently, he is on pace for over 2,600 yards and 24 TDs passing, and 709 yards rushing, totaling 3,300 yards of total offense.

For our history buffs, where would that rank all-time for USC QBs?

I know Phil Petty had a good last year, and Garcia had a good year before his final season. Don't remember Anthony Wright's stats, and I don't think Blake Mitchell was a statistical juggernaught.

I'm sure his numbers passing will probably fall behind Todd Ellis and Steve Taneyhill, but I don't think they had the potential rushing numbers Shaw could have this year.

Anthony Wright was our Qb during the 1-10 season

Don't think A Wright ever brokd 2,000 yds passing. Ellis broke 3k twice, prob fresh and soph seasons but he has negative rushing yards for his career.

Found a good site if accurate. Tanneyhill has negative rushing yds for his career as well. He passed for over 3k twice.

http://www.totalfootballstats.com/index.asp

With your projections, he moves to 4th in passing total.

My God if we had Anthony Wright w/ this O Line and Defense the past few years?

1. His throwing has improved remarkably. He has the pinpoint deep ball accuracy and is throwing with power (no longer throwing off his back foot).

2. He has developed a feathered touch for screens and passes into the flat, hitting his targets in stride. Todd Blackledge pointed this out, I believe.

3. He is throwing into space instead of throwing at the receiver. He is finally trusting HBC's system.

4. He has more of a pocket now and is beginning to develop pocket presence.

I have a feeling Connor Mitch may end up breaking Ellis' record if he is as the hype says.

He currently has 38.
If he stays on pace and throws 18 more he will have 56.
Granted that is throwing 2 TDs a game.
It is possible, especially with games against Kentucky and Coastal on the sked where he could throw for three or four.

Overall TDs, he has 49.

On a side note...
Mike Davis is on pace to finish with 1,358 yards and 12 TDs, putting 20th all-time at USC between Kenny Miles and Andrew Pinnock.
Assuming he stays until his senior year (unlikely) he would finish with 4,074 yards, 507 yards behind George Rogers.

His rushing yards would put him over Taneyhill's numbers from the 1995 season, but only by about 240 yards. Taneyhill also completed over 67% of his passes that season with 29 TD's and only 9 INT's. But it would be a push when you debate which one had the statistical best season in Carolina history if he were to continue.

NC, UGA and Vandy are three of our tougher opponents as well. If he beats up on the Kentuckys, Coastals, etc. he could give the records a run.

Good points. I'd add to the list that he's on pace to have his 2012 sack total cut in 1/2

Last year it seemed like he wanted to actually see the receiver open before he would let it go. Now it seems that he is just letting it go and trusting that the receiver is going to be at a spot. If he can stay healthy, he will have a very big year for us.

Default Shaw on pace for very good season

I could tell his confidence was up during the offseason. Led me to believe he was not going to be the same Shaw as last year. He's made the throws, had some he could have made but nobody is perfect. He'll only get better as the season goes on. He's proven that game by game.

Don't sell George short. He gained 5,091 yeards rushing in his carrer at South Carolina.
