Default Going to Knoxville

We are going to the UT game in October. What's the best place to stay? Is it a college town like UGA where the school is the majority of the town. We want to stay in Nashville but it's almost 3 hrs away

It's a cool trip. Not a college town, though. I wouldn't recommend staying in Nashville, it's too far away. Save money and go to the Vandy game next year if you want to do that. I'll try to find the location but we stayed at a Holiday Inn a couple blocks from the stadium that had a shuttle to the game, which was very convenient.

You might consider the Vandy game next year if you had your heart set on going to Nashville.

Yeah, I'd say they were similar too. Not a big city but not a college town.

If you eat in a Waffle House on Sunday assuming that we win, please look to see if they have a juke box. If so, make sure to play Rocky Top for the locals.

Always wanted to get them back for that when I went up there.

Hotels are not that hard to get. Just make sure it isn't a complete shit hole. Calhouns is a good place to go on the friday night before the game. It will be packed but the fans are friendly and the food is good. We screwed up 2 years ago and setup our tailgate in a church parking lot and were some of the only gamecock fans in there. No problems. There is an area where they encourage the visiting team to tailgate. Get there early so you can get a spot. They sell out quick. I was able to upgrade my tickets before gametime and ended up with some really good seats. There may be some more interest in Tennessee football this year then 2 years ago though. I sold my 2 tickets for a whopping $20 but only paid $60 for the 2 lower levels I picked up and my initial tickets were free.

I've been 5 or 6 times and I think the best route is to stay in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. We always rent a cabin and go up Thursday night. It's about a 30 minute drive into Knoxville. You could get a hotel in Knoxville, but the cabin option makes more out of the trip IMO. Plus there's like a 99% chance of having a hot tub! Calhoun's on Gameday no doubt.

I agree, the cabins are great! Surprisingly affordable.

^^^This. Been up to the Carolina/UT game knoxville 3 times ('03, '05 and '11). We stayed in Pigeon Forge everytime. We always found a clean cabin with a pool table and hot tub.

October is the busy season up there, so the rental price is higher. However, if you're like me and travel with a group with friends, the average price is cheaper than a hotel/motel...and the view is much better.

Besides going to Calhouns on gameday, we made our way to the market square area in Knoxville on Friday night. We enjoyed The Casual Pint and Crown & Goose.

GO COCKS!!

It is a really fun trip. I recommend the Downtown Grill and Brewery before the game. They have good food and brew great beer there. It is a two story place with tons of tv and football fans. I'm pretty sure it's on Gay Street.

i live in Knoxville and i would recommend Suttree's High Gravity Tavern (all higher alcohol content beers, no food) and its on par with other bars around the area. Its on Gay St. just across from Downtown Grill and Brewery which I highly recommend for the food (best beer-cheese pretzels ive ever had)...other than that i agree with what other people say! stay in pigeon forge/gatlinburg and enjoy the area. just make sure there are no other events in the gatlinburg/PF area that weekend or traffic in and out will be HELL!!!

Calhoun's on the river is awesome and one mile from the stadium. The Gamecock Club usually rents out part of it. It will be covered with Gamecock fans on the day of the game. Some friends and I always tailgate across from Calhoun's.

As far as places to stay, there are all kinds of options in downtown. I know a lot of Gamecock fans choose to stay in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge.
