Sounds great. Wish we even had 50 foodtrucks in Charleston

We have far more than 50. I hit up these food truck gatherings a couple of times per month. Here are some more:

I've had food from over 1/4 of them listed, but I have nearly given up on the whole food truck scene.

All the power in the world to them, but I have found that nearly 90% of them anymore fail by the same flaws:

1. They ALWAYS run out of their most popular items.
2. They run out QUICKLY.

My problem with those 2 flaws is that the whole nature of their business is being able to provide for crowds at events and many fail at it.

I remember the last even I went to. It was a cabana style bar trying to get some business and they had about 6 trucks show up downtown. Event started at 7pm. We showed up at 7:45ish and almost all of their main items were gone. Not only that, but the bar restricted them from selling beverages (even water, sodas, etc) so that people would walk up to the outdoor bar. Well, the 4 lines to the bar had 30 minute waits at least because guess what? People wanted a beer or cocktail!

One of the restaurants was a BBQ restaurant and they told me they would have more food within the hour. I said "so you are going to smoke some pork butts and brisket in that time?" I don't think so. You came unprepared.

This same scenario has happened a few times, because often a business will invite the food trucks to their area to gain business and make it happy for everyone involved.

So I hate to bring a dark cloud into your thread Yancey, but I always make sure I eat before attending a food truck event. Luckily, a few of the good trucks around here have landed themselves into a brick & mortar restaurant.

The whole food truck scene has got out of hand and everyone and their mom is trying to stick their hands in the pot.

Apologize for the rant. Again, more power to them but they are leaving $ on the table!

I don't really get the food truck scene either. Seems like everyone and their uncle opens a food truck these days.

Sure there are some good/great ones. But quite frankly it's a fad that will pass. I would rather sit down at a good restaurant and enjoy a meal then stand in-line at a truck for food that you then have to juggle in your hand, while holding a drink.

They are fine for fairs / festivals where there is a need to feed lots of people. But to have a food truck event just for the sake of having a food truck event? meh

There are a lot of things I like about food trucks. A big one is that it lets people start up a culinary business for far less than it takes to open a brick and mortar restaurant. Some of the trucks are run as extensions of sit down places though. That has created opportunities and fostered creativity. From the dining side it gives me a tremendous selection of foods. I like that. It is more fun with a small group of friends. Everyone gets just what they want. No haggling over where to go that day. BTW the fries with black truffle pieces, red Thai peppers, white truffle oil, and freshly grated Parmesan that I got from a Peruvian truck were the best I have had anywhere bar none.

I agree that the lack of tables and chairs has been a hassle. More and more dining tents are provided. Here are a few cooking channel truck episodes: http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/show...-face-off.html
