Default ESPN's Low & Aschoff pick USC/UM

Quote:
SOUTH CAROLINA at MISSOURI

Low: With Connor Shaw ailing, Steve Spurrier says backup quarterback Dylan Thompson will start this week for South Carolina. Missouri didnít miss a beat last week with backup Maty Mauk filling in for James Franklin. The Tigers can take a commanding lead in the Eastern Division race with a win, but the Gamecocks will make enough plays on defense to keep things interesting in the East with their biggest win of the season. Ö South Carolina 31, Missouri 27

Aschoff: These Tigers have everything going for them and with a win on Saturday, they will essentially win the East. But now the pressure is on. South Carolina is hurting after a loss to Tennessee and is now dealing with Shaw's injury. The offense and defense are clicking for the Tigers, but they haven't met a team as balanced as South Carolina, and Mike Davis will be the difference. Ö South Carolina 31, Missouri 24

It seems every media person has figured out that Mike is the difference maker for our team. The question is, does our coaching staff understand that yet??? They hadn't as of last Saturday, maybe that has changed this week. I pray they have. We can win every game left if we ride Mike to victory.

Lol he leads the SEC in rushing and our coach is one of the biggest stat geeks around. They know what they have.

Its really amazing what the Tennessee game has done to some of you guys.

its just frustrating having a huge oline and not utilizing it. Shotgun on 3rd and 2,3,4 is ridiculous. If we ran the I 4 more times a game it would be a difference maker. The timing of the I is crucial. I think Steve out thinks himself.

Seriously, "he didn't get the ball in the fourth," 6 of the 9 plays in the fourth were rushing, one of those he didn't get the ball. The only thing that could've changed that outcome other than the receivers not dropping it so much in the first is, as Spurrier said, if he stayed more aggressive, we couldn't play control enough to run out that clock, I say he should've done like the Alabama game and ran that bunch formation of fourth. Keep the timeouts and run away from that big DT, and we might get the first down, get further from the shadow of the goal post and the game gets easier. If they do score, take the touchback and execute with max protection pass plays, and see if they stop blitzing.

Dude, did you watch how the O was executing at that point, if Davis was getting the yards we wouldn't have had those three and outs toward the end, we became one dimensional without the passing game clicking, and they were stuffing the run late.

So you agree with the coaching staff that Mike shouldn't have touched the ball our last 3 drives? You agree that taking 2 timeouts on that 4th down was smart? I agree that we have a great coaching staff but that damn sure doesn't mean they are perfect or even near perfect. SOS said just a couple weeks ago that if we have the lead w 3 minutes or somewhere close that time, he would take a knee and punt the ball instead of screwing. Yet against UT he threw the ball and didn't run out the clock! Now explain to me how you think he coached that right?

Mike had a few good runs against UT, but the holes up the middle WERE NOT THERE

Probably because UT had a monster at NT, and we had our only senior on the line, a guard, out of the game.

So, yeah...perspective helps.

And of course, if Davis did get it 30-40 times during a game, the crowd of "Spurrier is overworking him" will be out in full force as soon as he gets hurt later on. Then as soon as the reserve comes in and stinks, they can complain about how we don't have any depth at RB and that Spurrier can't recruit.

Spurrier has been giving Davis a solid workload this year. Enough to keep him fresh throughout the games.

You're entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. "6 of the 9 plays in the fourth were rushing" is incorrect. We opened the 4th on the UT 45 and attempted, unsuccessfully, three passes. Davis should gotten the ball there, clearly.

That week was last week. Hopefully, this week, there will be no shortage of carries for Mr Davis.

They know what they have but that doesn't mean that Spurrier doesn't have a needless desire to throw the ball an inordinate amount of times. I think everyone who watches the games sees that.

South Carolina has ran the ball more than passed in every game this season but UNC.

Try again.

it's not a matter of run vs. pass, it's a matter of running the ball in situations where the ball should be run vs not doing that

So, we should run against 8 & 9 man fronts?

How many of those running plays were actually called runs? I do think Spurrier has called a balanced offense so far this year, but just the fact there have technically been more runs than passes doesn't prove it. Sacks count as runs too.
