Default Freddie Solomon

This past Friday night,Sumter High named the field at Memorial Stadium ,Freddie Solomon Field. For those old enough to have seen Freddie play, he was one of the best ,if not the best HS player in the history of our state. In my opinion I'd rate him as # 1 with Stephen Davis as #2.

Also, Sports Illustrated named former Sumter High player and Clemson star Terry Kinard as one of its all century college team. This was done back at the end of the last century so many may have forgotten that.

Default Re: Freddie Solomon

Only saw Freddie play once as a quarterback, and that was in the Shrine Bowl, where he put on the greatest individual performance I have ever seen in person. I think he accounted for 5 touchdowns (either 3 running and 2 passing or 3 passing and two running... I don't remember which) as the Sandlappers defeated the highly favored Tar Heels.

For those who never saw Freddie, Johnny Football's elusiveness reminds me of him... the North Carolina team Shrine Bowl team simply could not catch him on the broken plays.
