Default SEC East question

If the Cocks, UGA , and Mizzou end up tied with 6-2 records, who goes to the championsip game?

could be wrong, but if its a three way tie, they eliminate one team based on lowest BCS ranking, then do head to head against the two remaining. We hold the edge over Missouri but not UGA. If you look at the remaining schedules and where each of the three teams are in the BCS, it would seem that UGA probably wont rise above Mizz and us. That bodes well for us. But Missouri needs to lose another game.

Depends...if they lose to A&M and we are all tied they would go to the SECCG due to divisional record...if they lose to an East team it would go down the line until BCS rankings at which point the highest would go if they are more than 5 spots ahead of the 2nd place team...if they are within 5 spots it turns into a head to head.

Depends if Mizzou's other SEC loss came to a West or East team. If it came to a west team, then they go. If it came to an East team, then it goes through a bunch more steps in the tiebreaker process and it's kind of hard to say.

The best possibility for us is to have UGA lose another SEC game and have Missouri lose another SEC game.

After head to head it goes to divisional games, so Mizzou would get the nod.

I doubt UT can beat Missouri. Ole Miss or Texas A&M beating them is more likely.

Yep. And that's why we want UGA to lose again.

I don't think UT can beat MO, particularly without Worley at QB.

Here's a really good article on all the likely scenarios and what's used to determine the winner in event of a tie. (hint, it'll never come to the BCS rankings)

It depends a on a bunch of things. Mainly, which teams each team lost to, and possibly where the rest of teams finish in the SEC East standings.

Nope, that is wrong. They would look at the head-to-head of all three teams against the next highest team in the east (say Florida). If no change, the next highest and down until the tie is broken.

Best bet is to have both teams lose another game.

Here are the rules Mizzou loses to UT, everyone wins the rest of games. 3 way tie between USC/UGA/Mizzou.

1. (Once the tie has been reduced to two teams, go to the two-team tie-breaker format.)

TIE 2. Combined head-to-head record among the tied teams.

TIE 3. Record of the tied teams within the division.

Possible UGALY outcome. 4. Head-to-head competition vs. the team within the division with the best overall (divisional and non-divisional) Conference record and proceeding through the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last.

Notice the part I bolded. USC, and Mizzou common win is Vandy, UGA's is UT. We need UT to lose out after they beat Mizzou, and Vandy to win out. This will eliminate UGA. USC and Mizzou go head to head bam over, USC. If not UGA will get a double elimination, and win.

I like the way the SEC does this because it means the division, then conference record matters more than the rank of the team. If USC were in the B1G USC would get to go automatically since the B1G goes by highest BCS ranked team in the division.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Overall record vs. non-division teams.

6. Combined record vs. all common non-divisional teams.

7. Record vs. common non-divisional team with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional) record and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.

8. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game, unless the second of the tied teams is ranked within five-or-fewer places of the highest ranked tied team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the SEC Championship Game.

That is right. It IS ugly because it would basically be determined by something as silly as who finishes higher Vanderbilt or Tennessee. That is basically what it actually WOULD come down to this year. That is how ridiculous it is.

Oh yeah forgot it goes through the entire east first.....basically if Georgia wins out, we win out, and Mizzou loses the most likely game (A&M) we would have to hope that Vandy finishes above Tennesse or else we would be elimated and it would end up being Mizzou going to the SECCG.

Edit:

Or If I'm reading that right if we all three end up with 2 losses and Mizzou's is to A&M they win the east since they would have one loss in the east and we each would have two....well that stinks.

I feel like what's going to happen is we win out, Florida beats Georgia and Missouri loses to either Ole Miss OR Texas A&M but no one else. In this scenario, Mizzou goes because they only lost 1 SEC East game right? Man that'd suck but that's the likeliest scenario I'm envisioning right now.

No, even though it isn't in our division, they would still be tied with us, and we have the head to head tie breaker.
