Default Leading receivers to this point.

Through today's game our leading receiver as far as number of catches is Ellington with 32. Mike Davis is three behind that and then Byrd with 25. The top five is rounded out by Jones (21) and Anderson (14).

In terms of yards, Byrd leads the pack with 485 followed by Ellington with 474. Again Davis shows up as one of the receiving leaders with 326 yards. Next on the list are Roland (222) and Jones (203).

Most receiving TDs are Ellington (5), Byrd and Jones (4), Roland (3), and Whitehurst (2).

First, this makes it even more obvious how important Davis is to our success on offense (1,384 yards of 4,280 total offensive yards). Second, it shows the wide receivers and tight ends need to up their game so defenses won't simply try to take Davis out of the game in an attempt to shut down the offense.

And we should all jot that down in our journals. But you're right. Byrd had left a lot to be desired coming into this year, but he has somewhat quietly had a really good season so far. He's not just a deep ball guy either. He's made some impressive catches in traffic and on the sideline on shorter routes several times.

The thing is that my autocorrect and autocomplete are all too eager to finish my thoughts for me.

When I originally type that post, those two conspired against me to make it read, "It also shows that Byrd is jot a busty."

I do not know what that means but I told autocomplete thanks for the reminder but later

Byrd has had a great year imo. Also, Jones may not have as many yards, but he has made some crucial catches when we needed them.

Default Re: Leading receivers to this point.

I was glad to see Shaq step up and have a solid game this weekend...he was our leading receiver through the first 3 games before being suspended, and after being reinstated to the team he was kinda in the shadows. Hopefully after the MSU game perhaps he's regained some confidence and we'll start seeing some solid contributions from him...

It's great to have 4 quality receivers to take the field for our QBs to target in Ellington, Byrd, Roland, and Jones. I can't remember the last time we had that many WRs that could be looked towards as "go-to" receivers. Plus also having Davis as the SEC leader for receiving at the RB position is a weapon as well. I would also like to see the TEs utilized more - they combined for 6 receptions for 76 yds versus Mizzou, but only had 2 for 9 yards yesterday. But I really like how our WR depth is developing...

For those of you who were concerned about who was going to replace Ace as our go to, I think this post sums it up. We replace one player with a committee of players that are just as capable to get the job done. Another reason the Gamecocks are on the rise!

I have been really pleased with Bruce, D Byrd, and Nick. Now if Shaq can put his issues behind him going forward the squad could exceed all my expectations with the passing game.

Man, y'all spread it around. I'm envious, all we have are long balls to Sammie Coates and screen passes to RBs and WRs.

Maybe our best group of wr's we've ever had in the same year...

Good point about the TE's, they are getting more action. Adams and Busta have 4 catches each in the last two games combined.
