Default Looking Ahead: Florida and Beyond

After watching Florida last night, I expect us to beat them in a couple of weeks.

That will end our SEC regular season at 6-2 and hoping we can get some help from other teams to make us East champs for the second time.

Mizzou looks good, but losses to Ole Miss on the road and TAM at home would be a reasonable guess. I doubt they lose at KY, but stranger things have happened and KY will certainly throw the kitchen sink( a small one) at them.

Then there's the good, but beatable jawja team. They play at Auburn who might be the second best team in the SEC. Auburn averages 300 yards a game on the ground and I would be surprised if jawja comes back from Jordan-Hare with a win. The following week jawja plays KY at home to end their SEC regular season.

These games will decide our fate this year in the SEC. Our chances are good, but having to rely on other teams to lose is always nerve racking.

Hold on to what ya got, we all know the road to Atlanta is a helluva journey.

No matter what happens in the East, we have a great chance of winning out. Beating clemson and ending our year at 10-2 would be fantastic.

Our best season in school history is still achievable.

Go Gamecocks!

If we beat UF and Mizzou loses one and only one conference game we win the tiebreaker. Doesn't matter whether Georgia wins or loses. If Mizzou loses 2 Georgia wins it. It will be great insurance if Georgia loses another but is not necessary.

UF is beatable but that game is no gimmie. Their only bad loss was to Mizzou when they were injury riddled. While we get to rest and focus on fundamentals they have a Vandy team at home that beat Georgia. I like our chances.

I didn't think that was possible for only one Missouri loss and we go to the championship. Since they would be 5-1 in the east and we would be 4-2 Missouri would go if they lose one game and USC and Georgia win out.

I was speaking of their having one more loss. They already have one to us. ALL conference games counted initially. We would win the head to head.

http://www.secdigitalnetwork.com/NEW...e-breaker.aspx

In the event of a tie for the division championship, the following procedures will be used to break all ties to determine the SEC Football Championship Game representative. All Conference versus Conference Games (both division and non-division) will be counted in the Conference Standings.

A. TWO-TEAM TIE

1. Head-to-head competition between the two tied teams.
2. Records of the tied teams within the division.
3. Head-to-head competition vs. the team within the division with the best overall record (divisional and non-divisional) Conference record and proceeding through the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last.
4. Overall record vs. all common non-divisional opponents.
5. Combined record vs. all common non-divisional teams.
6. Record vs. common non-divisional team with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional) record and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.
7. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game.

B. THREE (OR MORE) TEAM TIE

1. (Once the tie has been reduced to two teams, go to the two-team tie-breaker format.)
2. Combined head-to-head record among the tied teams.
3. Record of the tied teams within the division.
4. Head-to-head competition vs. the team within the division with the best overall (divisional and non-divisional) Conference record and proceeding through the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last.
5. Overall record vs. non-division teams.
6. Combined record vs. all common non-divisional teams.
7. Record vs. common non-divisional team with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional) record and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.
8. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game, unless the second of the tied teams is ranked within five-or-fewer places of the highest ranked tied team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the SEC Championship Game.

Not so fast my friend. A three way tie would put GA in SECCG. The first tiebreaker for a three way tie is division record where we have 2 losses and GA and MZ have only 1. We are first out and MZ wins the remaining tiebreaker on head to head with GA.

That game at Auburn is the biggest stumbling block for us getting to Atlanta!

I dont think so. The SEC link I posted says that the first 3-way tie breaker is the combined head to head record. Mizzou and we have 2 losses. Georgia's loss to clem gives them 3 losses. The second tie breaker is division record which would not come into play. At least this is the way I heard it on TV.

Isn't it SEC losses that are used with the tie breaker?

Yes, that is what puts us at the tie breaker. If Mizzou loses one more then they, Georgia, and we will each have the same SEC record.

On the otherhand, if we win out, UGA beats Auburn, and Mizzou beats A&M we would have a good chance at a BCS bowl. So hopefully if we win out it will be either SECCG or BCS.
