For those interested:

He talks about staying 4 or 5 more years and how good he thinks next year's team will be.

I think he'll coach here a few more years, but when he's ready he's gonna go. I doubt if we'll know very far in advance.

“I said three to four one time and my son Steve (Spurrier) Jr. said, ‘Pop you need to say you’re planning on going four to five, that sounds a little bit better recruiting.’ If some day it’s time to hang it up I’ll probably know. We’ll all know,” Spurrier said.

Nice article. Can you direct me to a web site where I could read about Gamecocks football every day? They don't get much coverage in my local newspapers.

His active life is the key. He golfs, works out, and is always around young people at work. I don't think stress affects him too much either. I think he was stressed with the Redskins, but that was the last time.

Perhaps it's some new age symbolism thing, and whenever he throws away the visor, he's throwing away the stress.

Spurrier is honest to a fault. That's the kind of thing you discuss privately, but not announce to the public. lol

I have been fortunate to play golf with Spurrier a few times. He is totally straight up person. He says he is extremely happy with being at USC and more so because he has his family around him. He gets to do what he loves to do most (coach) and have all many of his kids and grandkids around him. I honestly think he continues partly because his kids would have to move on if he retired (I doubt Jr will be the next head coach here). So he can stay and keep his family employed and around. He doesn't kill himself like a lot of the coaches these days. But Steve has a bit of a temper and you never know what might set him off one day causing him to leave. The thing with MoRon really bothered him but it was worked out in a way that made him happy. I think he stays for a while.

Bear has 159 wins and with a win vs FL Spurrier will have 128. He will need 32 more to break the record. We would have to have a SPECTACULAR 4 years to get that. It will probably take 5 or 6 more, but that's certainly possible. It would be awesome!

No, if he averages about 6 SEC wins a year he will reach Bear in 5 more seasons.
