Default Christmas Traditions

Welp, after Thanksgiving Thursday the Christmas season will be underway. What are some of your Christmas traditions? What are some Christmas movies/specials you have to watch every Christmas?

A Christmas Story
Christmas Vacation
Prep and Landing

As far as traditions, we have immediate family get together on 22nd, extended on 23rd, christmas eve at my mother's with a dirty santa gift, Norwegian traditions on CHristmas eve, spread the reindeer food and put up the santa tracker on the laptop for the kids. Read Twas the Night before Christmas, elf on the shelf, and Portable North Pole Santa message. Christmas day we open gifts and then have a late lunch at my mother's. Take the tree down on New Years Day.

Oh yeah...the Disney Christmas Day parade

Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. I also try to guzzle as much egg nog as possible during the holidays. Once I start, I can't stop.

Don't really have any traditions that I can think of specifically. I guess we open presents on Christmas eve. I love the cartoon "The Grinch" and The Polar Express.

For my side of the family, we have brunch on the Saturday of the weekend we get together. My wife's family and my sister's husband's family are particular in that everyone HAS to be there the day of the holiday, so my family just picks a weekend close to it.

For my wife's family, we have to watch the Grinch on Christmas Eve. My wife and her brother got into the habit of watching that when they were younger and that has become tradition. Then, on Christmas morning her grandmother cooks breakfast.

My wife and I also go to the Lights Before Christmas at Riverbanks Zoo (even though we technically do that as part of our anniversary).

As far as movies, my wife and I like watching one or more of the Santa Clause series (Tim Allen) and I personally like watching Home Alone.

This season we start off with Thanksgivvikuh (http://www.newyorker.com/online/blog...sgivvukah.html) Usually it is one or the other. We usually kink it up.

Then it is on to Bodhi Day, Feast of Old Greek Goddess Athena, Yule, International Arbor, Day Christmas, Kwanzaa, Pongal, Neteret Amenet-Rait-Mut, Chinese, Hopi, and European New Year's days, World Peace day, Mindfulness Day, Tu B'Shvt, Imbolc, National Signing Day, my birthday, Valentine's, and Shivaratri. Lots of rituals, learnings, food, frolic, and fun.

I did the scotch.

Doing a tasting with 10-12 people on the 23rd. Pretty excited about it. Have 9 bottles to taste.

I think the only thing we do is have breakfast together at my parents house Christmas morning. Otherwise, I will just enjoy watching my kids open their gifts

Christmas Vacation and Elf are the two movies we seem to watch every year. We always make homemade pizza on Christmas Eve.

My little sister and I like to use they NORAD Santa tracker to track Santa's trip. I spend the morning with my mom and family here in Columbia then drive to Savannah in the afternoon and spend a couple of days with my dad and family down there.

Nice traditions, guys. For me personally I have to watch:

A Christmas Carol - 1999 TV Version
Christmas with the Kranks
A Christmas Story
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Jingle All the Way
The Santa Clause
Deck the Halls
Fred Claus
Home Alone 1 & 2
ELF

As for Christmas specials, I enjoy the one's from my favorite TV shows like 'The Office', 'Community', 'Family Guy', etc. But I really enjoy the one's from Nickelodeon like 'Rugrats', 'Hey Arnold', 'CatDog', etc. I grew up watching these shows, so they have sentimental value too me.

As for actual traditions. I don't do anything Christmas related until after Thanksgving. Once Thanksgiving is over with, then it's nothing but Christmas movies, specials, and music. When it comes to the music, I only prefer the oldies. As for family traditions, we always put up our Christmas tree and decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving and attend church service on Christmas Eve. That's really about it. Christmas day, we all wake up, open gifts, go over to my grandparents house, all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins are there as well, and we eat our Christmas lunch, open up more gifts, take our family photos, then it's goodbye until New Year's Eve.

When I come back to the Charleston area for Thanksgiving weekend, we always hit up the James Island County Park lights. Down that way for Christmas too but we have always gone that week for some reason to kick off the Christmas season.
