Default How would Sabin leaving affect the SEC west?

Question: How would the SEC west be affected if Saban left for Texas. And how would South Carolina's program be affected if that was to happen. Here in
Austin the word on the street is that UT is prepared to offer up to 100 million for him to coach the Longhorns...

It was 10 years 100 million. And I'm sure Bama would take a hit on recruiting and winning, but Bama will be Bama. And I don't think it would effect USC much unless in recruiting.

He's built a power program to be able to sustain success for the next couple years.
But we've seen what has happened to Bama after one great coach retired (Stallings) and they had a string of "non-Alabama" seasons.

IMO Kirby Smart isn't a "bad" hire but I don't think he's a home run or would be the national championship coach Saban is.

Could have a trickle down effect depending on who Bama goes after as there next coach, could be good or bad, hard to tell until the cards fall. Could help next years recruiting IMO

Given Auburn's success this year, I would say the power in the west could potentially shift to Aub..... ?? Malzahn seems to have something going there.

Probably very little. Bama would still be able to recruit even though they wouldn't be national title favorites every year. Plus there's still LSU and Auburn too, so competition wouldn't be lacking.

Bama might lose a few recruits this year and next, in fact, Saban would like go after a few of his current commits to take with him. But as others have posted, Bama is Bama and they'd do just fine for the next several years with the players they have. They'd no doubt go after a coach that can build on what Saban has in place and not take a step backwards.

Other than our eventual facing them on our schedule, I don't think it matters much to us if Saban leaves. We just need to worry about taking care of our own business and not what others might or might not do. IMO

It would hurt the SEC somewhat, because Bama under Saban has been the conference's most consistent national title contender. We brag about the SEC's seven BCS titles, but three of those have been by Bama. And Saban would turn the Longhorns back into true perennial title contenders, which would provide a real rival to each year's SEC champion.

Bama was a powerhouse team long, long before Saban. They may take a couple seasons to regain thier status ,but they will.

AJ McCarron said he wasn't going anywhere and that Miss Terry said they weren't leaving. I think in your sixties, it would be much harder to pull up the stakes and start over.

Not that I'm disagreeing with your post or anything, look at Spurrier. He basically did that. Would Saban? Idk.

I really don't think the Spurrier - Saban argument is a good one even though I brought it up. Saban has everything at Bama. He is the King of Football right now, and on track to make the "Bear" a relic of the past.

With that being said, would he move to Austin? Does money talk to him? Who knows. I really think he would be taking a step back by getting out of the SEC.

Plus Finebaum would have a cataclysmic meltdown of epic proportions.

All I can say is, I'm glad we have the OBC.

I don't think it would be for the money. Remember, though, how Spurrier was needling Saban about how much easier it was to coach at Bama than it was to rebuild a program? IF he left, it would be for the short-term challenge. But something tells me he is content to just keep reloading at Bama and take on Bear's legacy.

That is the one reason (that no one seems to be talking about) that will prevent him from going.

Look how many do it in the SEC. And outside of LSU, his entire division does it.
Mizzou, Vandy, Auburn, A&M, Ole Miss, Miss State, Kentucky.

It's hard to speculate about that as is that would be the only major change that were to happen. If Saban leaves it, could go either way. Alabama will certainly have the talent, but who is going to coach that offense if they hire Smart? They could hire someone good, but that doesn't mean it will work.
