IT'S MY GAMEFACE !!
GOT IT RIGHT ..... GOT IT WRONG THREAD FOR 2013
With 2013 a memory, I thought it would be fun to go back and look at some
of my pre-season views and opinions of the football team vs how they
stacked up against actual season play. Please feel free to comment and
add your own "got it right" and/or "got it wrong" posts. (remember)
We can go look up past statements so be honest!
GOT IT RIGHT:
* I put in the first two practice reports this fall and made the statement
a few times before the season started (here and on Facebook) for Gamecock
fans to keep an eye on Skai Moore this season. He was impressive at practice
from the time he stepped foot on the field at the proving grounds, and has
had a very solid and steady season. KID'S GOT GAME !
* Was very sad to see how Marcus Lattimore's career ended here at USC,
but I was so impressed by our backs this spring and fall, that I made the
statement that I thought our ground game would be even stronger this
season. Mike Davis a year involved in the system, and having benefited
by being tutored by Marcus, AND our depth with a healthy Wilds and Carson
would make us stout in the ground game.....yeah, we had some injuries with
the second / third unit, but Mike's improvement was even more than I had
seen coming, and made our ground game very dangerous.
* With Ace Sanders leaving early the year before, a lot of people were concerned
(myself included) as to how our air attack would go this year. I felt like with
the way Bruce and Damiere was doing this fall, that we my not necessarily
"improve" over 2012, but I didn't see a drop off either. I thought with a
solid core of WRs like Ellington, Byrd and Jones, we could have a very good
and balanced offense, so my comments about our passing game as a whole
and Ellington's leadership role of both the team and the WRs was accurate.
* Basically made the statement that our offense would be "MUCH" improved
this season, and that the team would finish among the top 4-5 teams in the
SEC as a result of that.
* I purposely avoided long and multiple post discussions regarding our QB
this season, with one exception. With a handful of people on the board who
were convinced that Dylan Thompson would be the Starter by opening day OR
would take over the job by game three, I made the same statement two or
three times ..."If Connor Shaw stays healthy (barring serious injury), He
would begin the season as our Starting QB, and finish the season as our
starting QB" ! .... There was no need to get into a back and forth about it.
A senior QB who was at the point of teams that had won back to back 11 wins
seasons, having not lost a single home game, and having a very legitimate
shot at breaking a longs standing win record for starting QBs, was not going
to be benched at any point this year unless he completely fell apart or had
a season ending injury. ...Shaw was not the kind of player who would totally
* Still time for him to make me out to be wrong, but as for this past season,
when I was asked directly my opinion about Shamir Jeffery, I responded with
"Will not see any major PT in his career as a Gamecock WR"....This season
proved that statement accurate for 2013
GOT IT WRONG:
* With the speed and quickness our defensive front showed in practice in the
spring and fall, even with the youth, I made the statement that our linebackers
would surprise a lot of Gamecock fans this season, AND that our defense
overall would be better than that of 2013. In truth, our youth and inexperience
was too much to overcome with the level of experience and size of offenses
we faced this year. Even though we got stronger as the season progress, and
didn't fall apart there at any point of the year, we were not a well oiled
machine at the second level of defense this year.
* I was DEAD WRONG about the evolution of Shaq Roland. I told several
people here on cockytalk who asked, and made the statement in the practice
reports that Roland was a disappointment, and I felt like he would end his
career here similar to that of DJ Moore, Lamar Scruggs and Jason Barnes....
Not only did Roland SHOW UP this fall, but got better as the season progressed
and was a big reason we won that fifth straight game over Clemson a few
weeks back.....Happy to admit I was wrong here.
* Felt like with the addition of Pharaoh Cooper, and the Experience of Damiere
Byrd, that our Kick Return team would show a significant boost in it's production
this year. I actually said I thought we'd be among the SEC leaders in KR
production. ...... as it turns out, we were near the bottom overall and just
never had any consistency there.
Those are the ones that come to mind immediately. If I went back and read
through the practice reports and old threads, I could find several more on
each side, but these stand out off the top of my head.
Let's hear yours

Re: GOT IT RIGHT ..... GOT IT WRONG THREAD FOR 2013
I appreciate the fact that you posted this...you manned up, so to speak. I'd love to see a stickied prediction thread for each season and see how they play out. There are too many threads with predictions in them and you can't really nail them down.
Even George knew this streak would happen
