I dont know why Morris would want to leave, he's making bank as an oc and dabo is the one blamed for the most part when the team doesnt execute. But if he does leave, I'm pretty sure clemson will stay within the program for the next oc.

Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris still remains another possible candidate for that top position on Strong's list, though his buyout is a major impediment. By the language of the contract that he signed in 2011, Morris "must pay Clemson a buyout equal to the sum of his annual total compensation multiplied by the years remaining on his contract."

Since his contract runs through 2017 and he makes $1.3 million a year, the buyout would be $5.2 million this year.
If Morris is the guy that Texas wants, however, even the hefty buyout may not be enough to dissuade the Longhorns from cutting the check with a significant budget to work with to hire assistant coaches.
On the other hand, that's a lot of money to spend for an assistant coach who would be unlikely to give a commitment of more than two years since he's already a head coaching candidate.
Another coach with a Texas connection had their name thrown out there on Thursday evening:

Morris would be a fool not to leave CU, regardless of the fact that his offense does not fool our defense and we've owned it. He is losing some big time play makers and that offense will struggle. He can leave now and when CU looks like crap next year, he can pat himself on the back and say "see, it was me all along....."

He needs to strike soon...the past few years have been good for him but if he really wants to be a head coach shouldn't he move on? It's a big gamble on yourself to hold out and hope that the next few years will be just as productive.

With the kind of athletes Texas pulls in year after year, a Chad Morris offense and a Charlie Strong defense would be a pretty potent football team.

Actually, there is zero buyout if he leaves for a head coaching job.

His buyout is only for lateral moves.

Morris's problem seems to be the same every year with that offense, he gets too impatient and always wants to hit the big play. He doesnt have it in him to have a 12+ play drive, he always has to go for the homerun at some point. Case in point their first drive against USC this year, they were marching it right down the field on us running and passing and all of a sudden he has to get cute with a Sammy Watkins trick play and pass and low and behold it gets intercepted. Those big plays are fine against lower tier ACC teams that dont have athletes that can keep up, but against solid football teams with disciplined players who have speed those plays arent always there and he doesnt know how to be methodical with his play calling.

That being said, that sounds like a perfect offense for the Big 12, that is a high scoring conference that loves big plays. I think he would be a great fit for Texas paired with Strong's defense. No way they pay him that much money to come there but it would be a good fit and would make Texas a very good football team

A few things to ponder. Will Whitehurst leave for Louisville. Will Strong hire Spurrier, JR to be the OC?

Chad is done, he will have no play unless it's a Division 2 team. He is not taken serious anymore because how ineffective his offense is against decent defensive teams.

We've gone into the Clemson game the last three years with the IDENTICAL
gameplan ..... IDENTICAL, and Clemson and their high priced coaching staff
have yet to figure out what they're doing isn't working.

On offense, we KNOW they are going balls to the wall to stop our major
weapon, and Spurrier just dangles it out there in front of them and takes
what the tigers leave open trying to stop our one major weapon. When they
sold out to stop Lattimore in 2010, Spurrier gave him the ball just enough
to keep their 8 man front up in the box, and then Garcia and Alshon had
a field day because they had one man on AJeff the entire night.

The following season, They were hell bent on Stopping AJeff, and Spurrier
kept throwing to him just enough to keep them in that two deep safety,
rolling toward AJeff when he went more than 10 yards down the field, and
also dropped back the LB on that side. Spurrier had either Shaw running
wide open on QB draws to the opposite side of the field, or just dumped it
off to our TEs and RBs on that side as well.... Also left tons of room for
Miles to run underneath the coverage.

This past season, they stacked the box again to stop Davis, and Shaw had
the opening when the sold out to shut him down on the Read Option, and
they doubled up on Bruce Ellington so Shaq Roland was left one on one
deep....Yep, we took advantage of it.
I have said this a few times in other threads, but it is worth repeating. Just because we own them doesn't mean their offense doesn't help them win other games.

Chad Morris is an Overpaid, Overrated OC who only looked good against
the majority of weak opponents he faces in the ACC, and against the 2-3
good opponents he faces each year, he shows his true colors.
There's a reason Morris isn't sitting by his phone saying no thanks to the
10-20 teams with coaching vacancies every year turning them down to stay
at Clemson. He's had one or two "interviews" simply because those teams
needed to interview a couple more besides the man they were intending to
hire anyway.
I am not really sure why he has never landed an offer to SOME of these. Others, I believe they really did already have the guy they wanted in mind. He is in a unique situation for sure. He makes enough that any job like Arkansas State is a step down, yet other people are not quite willing to pull the trigger on a guy that hasn't been a head coach yet for more than that when they have other options available.

Quote:
Morris will not go to Vandy (IMO), because IMO, Vandy will go after a better
prospect. Morris will not be able to get the kind of talent to make himself
look like an Offensive genius, nor will he playing in a conference loaded with
unranked teams like he did at Clemson.
Morris is waiting for Dabo to leave, and he wants the Head Coaching job
at Clemson.
Let's say everything you say is true, and Morris stinks as much as Dabo does at a coach. Let's have Morris at Vandy so we spank a division foe like a rented mule AND have Dabo crash and burn at clemmers with a 10 year contract they can't buy him out of. Where is the downside of that???

Agree.

Anyone who understands football can see why we've beat CU 5X.... the first 3X our guys simply domimated their OL and they had no answer for it. '11 may have been the worst of the 3 losses for them...but we had Jadeveon, Devin and MI6...3 NFL guys. That was a formidable pass rush.

'12, we saw a marked improvement from CU, but we still had an edge in the trenches. This year may be the first time CU did pretty well v. our pass rush but because of the turnovers, we'll never know how good their team was since our guys weren't really pushed like they were v. some of the other teams we've played.
I think Morris' offense is formidable, but certainly needs a quality OL to beat the better teams they play. I also think if he leaves CU, they'll see a noticeable decline in their offense and W-L record.

Next season will be interesting since they lose key people...

I also don't think Morris is going anywhere this year.

I know there is a buyout if Morris were to leave for another OC position, but I wonder if there would be a buyout if he were to leave and become something like assistant headcoach? Depending on contract language, that may be a work-around.

He's the toughest as far as being a tough player. He's not the toughest to replace as far as role responsibility between the two teams, as Dylan Thompson has already faced Clemson at Memorial Stadium as the starting QB, and beat them. If anything, Dylan will have a much improved OL, better RB depth, and as good of a WR depth as it was in 2012. Clemson doesn't have a single player on their roster now that has ever taken a snap at QB against USC....
