I have one suite and wear it for three occasions.

Weddings
funerals
Job interviews

Went to a real Taylor shop. They measured me and helped me pick a real nice classic suite for me.

Probably paid a bit more then the discount places. But I always get compliments when I wear it and I have had it for 12 years.

Thanks for all the info, guys. I went to JAB website and it doesn't mention buy one get 3 right now on the home page, but maybe I missed it. I think I'm just going to go into my local store and talk to them, or are the online savings so significant that I should forego the brick and mortar location altogether?

Guy I work with also mentioned a site called combatgentleman.com (I think). Said it's better than JAB, but he's been known to be full of it so who knows.

I've seen no less than 5 commercials for it today.
Go to a store and ask. Worse case scenario is "no"

Most of lands ends shirts are already semi-tailored (at least fitting). If not, yes: get your shirts tailored - at least the nicer ones.

I just bought 2 nice suits from Jos A Banks and am very pleased. Went to Men's Warehouse and their stuff was junk compared to JAB.
Same here. Jos. A Bank online is offering specials all the time. A few months ago, I picked up 2 suits and assorted other items for less than $400.00. I'm an extra long, and Men's Warehouse does not stock that. S&K did, but their out of business now.

To the point, I am wanting to build a wardrobe of nicer clothing, specifically some suits. Although my work allows us to dress pretty casually (golfshirt, khakis, sperries, etc), I am considering "dressing for the job I want, not the one I have". I assume that if I want to be able to wear a suit every day, that I will need atleast 5 different suits (please correct me if there's a more sensible way to go about this). I've recently purchased a pretty basic charcoal suit at Mens Wearhouse on Harbison (in Columbia), and it ended up being a little over $300 after alterations. I asked them about their BOGO, and they said that only applies to the more expensive suits, which start around $500/suit. Does anyone have recommendations for a better value? I am looking mainly for value, not necessarily a premium suit, being as my job is not one that requires hobknobbing with wealthy executives or anything even close to that. That being said, I do want something that has a stylish/slim appearance.

So, my question is- is Mens Wearhouse the best value? Should I go Joseph A Banks? Maybe something else? Also, I already have a charcoal suit, and I'd like to add a blue and black for sure. What other recommendations do you all have? Thanks in advance for your input.

BELKS -Columbia Mall/Harbison They have a HUGE suit sale 2 times a year. Even when they are not on sale, they have a great selection and a good tailor.

Frank and Oak sells good quality "grown up" clothes for a good price . And Primer is a great site for style tips on how to suits should fit, where to find good deals, etc..

Here's an example of a Primer article: http://www.primermagazine.com/2013/l...-sleeve-length

I think Men's Warehouse is trying to buy Jos A Bank's, not the other way around.

That would be too bad. Men's Warehouse is only a few rungs above Wal Mart. All they would do is drag Jos A Bank down to there level.
