Default Tailgate TV Stations

Thinking about buying a small TV for the tailgate this year. Can you pick up any games off of an antenna (CBS maybe)?

What are the easiest and cheapest ways to pick up games? My phone does not get reliable internet on gamedays.

You can buy an HD antenna for about 30-40 bucks. It will grab local HD channels like CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox. Not a bad deal and easy to set up.

Thanks. Sounds like a suitable option.

Anyone tried to run ESPN3 off your phone out there? I know cell phone reception is spotty on gameday...

We usually bring a spare DirecTV dish and somebody's box/remote/wires to hook to a tv. Last year we did a big tailgate for the UGA game and powered the box and a projector without a problem using a small generator we sat off in the woods about 30 feet away. Did awesome for a theater-style setup.

I've tried that too. It's hit or miss sometimes. I have sprint, which is pretty suspect down in Cola. But my dad has Verizon, and we've had better luck with his phone, still buffers a lot though.

Thanks Tolley.

I'm going to be running a Black and Decker 500 Watt inverter off my new car battery and powering a 50 watt LG Shelf Stereo system and a 32 inch Vizio LED with a HD Antenna. Hopefully we'll be able to catch some of the national games and highlights before and after the Cocks game.

The Hd antennas will also pickup the wmmp? network that usually broadcasts the SEC game of the week. Wal-mart or Target both sell a decent one for about $20. I use 2 of them with no issues.

Apple TV works for the ESPN app for me up until the time the parking lots start to fill up. You can get the ESPN gameday stuff on the early games pretty well. I setup my Verizon phone and was on 3g last year but have since upgraded to 4g and am curious if it is any better.

5 squirrels running in cages in the woods to power up a tv really doesn't count.

I used an antenna last year. It worked great. Only problem was after the game, since we could only pick up local channels, we were stuck watching the news and crappy late night reruns. If interested I will sell you my antenna. I purchased a dish to set up this year.
