Default Garber vs Klinsmann round 1

http://m.nydailynews.com/sports/socc...icle-1.1975729

"I believe that Landon should've been in Brazil because his performance dictated it," Garber said. "And if anybody disagrees with that clearly Jurgen does then I think his treatment was inexcusable. And I have concerns that his criticisms, particularly of Michael (Bradley), is following that same pattern."If Jurgen wants to talk to Michael about what's in the best interest of his career, go ahead and do that. But don't use a media platform to do that. I think that is absolutely unacceptable."

Nice for Garber to stick up for the MLS, but his opinion is basically worthless. He's a sports marketing guy. He knows absolutely nothing about evaluating talent and what the National team needs to do to be succesful. It's Klinsmann's job to put together the best National Team he can. It's not Klinsmann's job to prop up the MLS.

Yeah but Klinsmann needs to be more professional when he talks.

I'm glad Garber had the cojones to shut him down, somebody had to.

Will a better MLS help us? Yes
But it's not there right now.

I understand Bradley wants to help, but at this current part of his career he needs to be in Europe with the better coaching to help him improve. He can come back and help the MLS when he's hit his ceiling. A 32 year old Michael Bradley with a European Background is still better than the 19-23 year old MLS regulars.

It's funny that Klinsmann is right. Garber really has no idea what he's talking about.

Looks like Klinsmann is the only adult in this group. Donovan is a grown man. He knew what was expected of him and he knew what the consequences of his decision would be.

Love Klinsmann. Hopefully the team begins to reflect him instead of guys like Donovan and Bradley.

Bayern Munich won the World Cup and they aren't even in the top league. This whole idea that our players are better off sitting on a European bench than playing in the MLS is a load.

Garbon just needs to worry about what's going on in the MLS and stay out of things that don't concern him. It's going to take more than having a few of the top US players in the MLS to get the MLS anywhere near competing with the top leagues around the world. Having our top players competing in Europe against the best of the best is the only way we can keep improving the national team. Sports fans in the US want to see a winner and that starts with the national team. Klinsmann is a proven winner at the highest level. Garbon is so far out of his depth on this it's embarrasing.

Bundesliga talent is far superior to MLS. Anybody on the FC Bayern roster would be an immediate star in MLS. Nobody in the MLS would start for FC Bayern.

It's just the way it is. MLS isn't structured to compete with European leagues. They have major salary cap restrictions in place that won't allow them to be competitive with European league talent.

The U.S. tried to have a league that was competitive with the worlds best, and it failed miserably. The restrictions MLS has, were put in place from the beginning to try and prevent a bankruptcy; caused by teams overspending on talent and not recouping in revenue. They have however, been the primary reason for its immense success.

Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey were not sitting on the bench. Landon gave up on it too early, I think if he had moved to Premier League instead of coming back from Germany with his tail between his legs he could have made it over there. He did really well in a couple loan spells for Everton. The only way to get better is by playing better competition. If guys just want to hang out and be MLS All-Stars then that's all they will ever be. The MLS hasn't even had a team make the finals of the CONCACAF Champions League in 14 years. An MLS team needs to be in the finals every year and winning most years before you can even think about having your national team's players stay in the MLS.

No they aren't the top league, but they are probably 2nd or 3rd.

And there is a large gap between that league and the MLS.

I don't think that was ever the goal of the MLS, maybe a long term goal. I've actually been very impressed with the MLS and the patience they have shown to grow the league slowly and properly. The problem with Garbon is that he has a clear conflict of interests going on. I don't think he should be on the board of US Soccer and the Commisioner of the MLS if he is going to put the interests of the MLS ahead of the interests of the National Team.

Point is, Klinsmann doent need to be trashing our domestic league, Greece won a European cup with nobodies, Klinsmann needs to do his effing job with what he has avaliable and be thanksfull that we are giving him a job that was denied to him in his own country twice.

It wasn't, I was referring to the NASL. I was just saying that had been tried and failed. MLS was structured to not be like that.

Did Klinsmann deny you a spot on the US roster or something?? You sure do have a lot of hate for the best manager this country has seen. Point is the MLS is garbage compared to other leagues and not even by a slim margin. Our all star team may get lucky every now and again against one of the big boys, but half those players can't even play for our national team. Like a poster above said as well we can't even have teams from our domestic league make the finals of CONCACAF Champions league. I understand from a biz standpoint where garber is coming from, but basing on talent he has no say at all.

My bad, thought you were saying the MLS tried and failed. You're right on the money with the way they structured the league. The problem now is they have a good stable league but how do you take the next step without running into the problems the NASL faced. I grew up in New Jersey and would go see the Cosmos play almost every home game, and the stadium was always packed, but you can't run a league with just one team. I guess the question for the MLS is, do you stick with what has worked and try to continue to grow slowly, or at some point do you ease up on the salary cap and designated player rules?
