the specific snake that bit them. If they don't have it in SC they can keep
the bite victim stable long enough to fly in antivenin for that specific snake.
The most well equipped sources for antivenin in the U.S. are in Miami
Florida Beach Florida and San Diego Cal. As long as they know what kind
of snakebite it is, they can at least keep them stable and get what they
need within a few hours.

I think the snake guy in the video RG posted said you've got 15 minutes to get treatment once a Gabon bites. I think I would flip out and die of a heart attack in seconds if I were ever snake bit. A non venomous garter snake could nibble my finger and my heart would stop. I'm that afraid.

I haven't seen / heard any details on the snake itself, but from reading the
repors and hearing them talk about it on the news, I'm sure they know
who had the snake and how it got loose / or let go. There's no way they
spend the kind of time and money they have so far trying to find a snake
just because of finding a shed from it. They keep talking about it being
near an apartment complex, so I'm betting they know the owner was / is
living there.

The report said the skin was moist when the exterminator found it, so they think it is still near the apartment complex since they aren't generally active.

I've been bitten a few times by the snakes I have, and by some of the
ones I've caught outdoors. It scares the CHIT out of you the first couple
of times it happens, but after a time or two, if you know the snake isn't
venomous, it's not a big deal. It's just the fear of snakes that gets to you
when they strike.

Example:
If you've ever had a cat, and liked to play with it, you've been hurt worse
from their claws than you could ever get hurt from a non venomous snake.
The scratches from most cat will get infected if they slightly break the
skin. the bite from a non venomous snake doesn't carry any kind of
bacteria or virus that could cause harm to humans. It's possible to get
secondary infections from the germs in the air (same from any cut or
scratch you get), but the snake itself is harmless. Only the adult non
venomous snakes are capable of breaking the skin with their teeth. The
smaller adults and juveniles don't even leave a mark. It's more like your
hand being stuck with velco.

Yeah, that's what I heard too. They said the shed was still stretchy and
moist. An older skin will dry out within a day. According to the size of the
snake, they will shed about 2 to 5 times a year. usually, this is the time
of year most domestic snakes come out of the winter inactivity. They
normally shed when they first come out, and then start looking for food
and mates.

I can understand the "attraction" or "fascination" for them because I've
been fascinated with them pretty much all my life. Since I was 8 or 9
years old I've been reading about them, catching Garter snakes, Green
snakes, and into my early teens, I've caught Black Snakes, King Snakes
and Brown Snakes. To me, it's like most people who have Tropical Fish.
I love the colors, the patterns and just amazed with the grace and
skill at them moving. ... I can understand why people like Venomous
snakes too. It's the same attraction, but you have to consider that you are
not just getting it for you, but you are affecting everyone around you.
I know of people who own them and keep them like I do corn snakes, but
have small children in the house with them... To me that's insane. You
need to understand what you're getting into BEFORE you buy one, or
even buying non venomous HUGE constrictors. Those are as dangerous
to have around as Venomous snakes are. If you can't raise one from
birth til death, you don't need to buy it. Getting a few months or a
couple of years into it, and having the "Cool Factor" wear off is not the
time to decide it wasn't a good idea to purchase a Deadly snake.

If you live alone, and don't have a lot of visitors / family coming in all
the time, then go for it. But if you have children in the house or people
constantly coming in and out, then it's best to go with something that
isn't capable of ending someone's life with one strike.

Gaboon Vipers can easily live in SC not just Charleston. Anybody who lives in Charleston knows it doesn't really have a winter. We already have large Pythons in SC.

I don't consider my snakes Pets. ... There more like Keep animals. I don't
consider fish as pets either. Dogs, Cats, Birds, Rabbits etc... Those
are Pets. Most people that own exotics call their animals pets, but in the
general form, they are not. Some exotics like sugar gliders, Ferrets, lemurs,
armadillos are more like pets because the owner can interact with them,
but snakes ...... Not so much. They Tolerate being held if you do it
enough, but they generally want to stay out of sight and don't come out
when people are present.
As for other reptiles....my wife has a Bearded Dragon. Don't know how
much you know about those, but if you have children in the house, and
decide to have a Reptile Pet.... BUY A BEARDED DRAGON ! Those things
are so freekin' cool, and interact with their owners. They are touchy to
raise when they are young, but when they get older, they get very low
maintenance, and will allow you to hold them, and they want to climb
up on you and hold on. I have four grand daughters ranging from ages
4 to 18 and when they come down, they spend hours playing with my
wife's bearded dragon.
