Default NASHVILLE (The TV Series) viewers here:

For anyone who watches the series. What do you all think of the music
in general, and what are some of your favorite songs that have been
written and performed by the actors in this series.

I have had a deep distain for what Country and Rock Music has become
the past decade +. I know it changes / evolves every generation, but
what Rock n Roll is now compared to the 60s/70s/80s is a bastardization
of the music it was founded on. Same can be said for Country music as
well.

Having Said that, I have gotten into watching Nashville and there is some
Really Good Music in that show. ... It's far from Country Music (what the
show is supposed to be centered around), so if you put aside the fact that
is "SUPPOSED" to be Country Music and listen to what it actually is, there
are some gems in that show.

I have loved this song since I first heard in performed by Clare Bowen
on the show a few weeks ago. They have featured it for a few weeks
now, and I have this song stuck in my head now for the past couple of
weeks. ..This is the type of Earwig I hope stays around for a while.

BLACK ROSES (performed by Clare Bowen)

The song in it's entirety

I don't watch the show, but I think it's cool that Chip Esteen is on a big show as a serious actor. He was a common participant on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?".

I really didn't want to even watch the show from the pre production trailers
they used to hype the show, but one of my favorite actors of all time
was in it, so I decided to watch it just to see where Powers Booth fit in.
Got into the show after watching the first three/four episodes and watch
it now just because of the songs. The soap opera around it all is "Dallas
Like" but the music is really good... though far from being Country Music
IMO.

Another really good song from that show: (A Chris Isaak Sort of thing going on there)

** The old guy with the white beard listening to these two sing is JD Souther.
Dude co wrote some really classic songs with a lot of people including the
Eagles and Jackson Browne. He's not a regular on the show and hasn't had
a part on it since the first few episodes of season one, but I thought it was
cool to have him as a part of the show originally.

I know...if it weren't for the music, I wouldn't watch it now. The plot
changes almost weekly and it's hard to stay on track with what's going
on. Plus Powers Booth died on the show a few weeks back so his character
has been removed from the series. The one saving grace for me watching
it now is that the music is actually getting even better than it was the
first season. I'll keep watching as long as that's the case.

It's like Sons of Guns.... the first two seasons was AWESOME. Guns, Tanks,
Flame throwers, Cannons etc.... and the show was about building and
modifying guns and nothing else..... the last three seasons it's a drama
reality show that is trying to come off like American Chopper and building
guns is an afterthought around the cussing, fighting, and screaming at
each other about every little thing..... when they stop blowing shit up,
they will lose me as a viewer

I don't watch it but my wife loves it. I will say that Connie Britton is hot. Still love her from he FNL stint.

I challenge your "bastardization" of rock claim. While there is a ton of crappy rock music out there and "rock" as a genre has become hard to classify - I'd be interested to hear your opinion on some of the following bands (if you listen to them)...

Dr Dog - first 4 or 5 albums sound like an updated version of the Beatles and Beach Boys

Jack White's different bands - White strips is garage rock, along with his Raconteurs work which has rock and some country elements and then the is the Dead Weather plus his new solo stuff which is sick. Definitely need to watch his ACL special if you haven't already seen it.

Wilco - awesome "dad rock'

Ryan Adams - "alt country"

Drive By Truckers - Southern Rock Opera, Decoration Day, and Dirty South were 3 of the most complete albums of the 2000's. Incredible lyrics with 3 lead guitar players. (Yes please!)

Derek Trucks - one of the greatest guitar players alive. Him and Susan Tedeschi's new stuff is blend of rock, blues, and Motown.

I could go on and on. Hell David Byrne has released a good album in the pat 5 yrs, not to mention that Pixies reunited and were touring again (with Kim Deal for a while). And thety were still good too! (saw them in Charlotte when they did the Debaser anniversary tour) There's plenty of good rock out there but not all of it fits nicely into the previous box that folks once placed it in.

Rock n Roll (REAL RnR) IMO took a really bad path in 1974/75 and the
epicenter of that turn was the Frampton Comes Alive album and the
massive amount of money A&M put into the hype and PR during the
pre-release of the Album. IMO, FCA would have still sold at almost record
numbers without the PR tsunami, but since it worked out that Frampton
Come Alive ended up being the best selling debut album in Rock (at
the time of it's release) THAT became the new way to do business. Other
major record companies followed that business model and when some
of the big name corporations saw the large amounts of cash that was
being generated on Rock Music, they wanted in and started paying
the Record Companies and Personal Managers of the bands to allow them
to sponsor Albums, Concerts and Promos simply as another outlet of
advertisement. .... RnR finally deteriorated into basically what it is today
when the Bands saw the amount of money the Record Companies were
making off them with the small percentage they were getting in return
so they started pulling in legal teams and accountants to basically turn
their band name and merchandise into a major business themselves.

To be honest, I don't keep up with new Rock or Country now. Couldn't
tell you who's who from the list you posted above. I've heard a few
songs here and there that are "OK" for my tastes, but I have yet to
hear anything that makes me want to get into a band or artist now.

I said when my kids got into their early / mid teens that I was not going
to be "My Dad" and forbid my children to listen to their music, or give
them lectures as to what they should / shouldn't listen to based on my
opinions. ... Save one. I told my kids whatever they wanted to listen to
was their business but I would not have them listening to Hard Core
Rap / Hip Hop in my house. If they wanted to get into that, they could
listen to it on Their turf... Not mine. They respected that view. I tired
to listen to the stuff they got into in the 90s and early 2000s, and found
(as I said above) "some" things that were listenable for me, but as a
whole, it was not music I would go out and buy CDs / Cassettes and
listen to as a whole. ...Talking about stuff like Godsmack, Nine inch Nails,
Red Hot Chili Peppers..... My oldest son was listening to Toad the
Wet Sprocket, Blues Traveler, Smash Mouth ..... I just looked at them
and smiled and walked away when they were listening to that stuff.
Early Grunge Music was "So-So", but it quickly turned sour for me, and
that was where I declared Rock n Roll was dead for me, and I turned
to downloading Classic Rock from Napster and left the new stuff to the
next generation.

So is Haden Panettiere. (Plays Juliette Barnes)
Still hard for me to look at that good looking young lady without seeing Cheryl
from Remember The Titans.
