Hard to make money when the chalk dominates. Did you hear Chrome's owner get in a dig at Churchill....he said they could learn a lot from Pimlico. All the good horses from the Derby got to rest this weekend.....a bunch of them will be back in NY. The Derby time was slow, but today's time was outstanding.

GH, you are a pup. I remember Secretariat "moving like a tremendous machine" during the belmont in 1973...I was 12 years old. To me there will never be another horse close to that superhorse. Affirmed won the triple again in 1978 I think...none since that.

Go watch secretariat's races on youtube. watch them in order, at the belmont you'll get goosebumps listening to the call.

I hope Cali Chrome wins it...makes for a great story given the jackass on the back of the silks. Bob Baffert will shat himself if some low brow horse wins the triple. LOL

Secretariat's Belmont time will never be broken, ever. It would be like someone running a mile in under 3 minutes. Do you know why he was able to do that. He had an enlarged heart. When he died, they did an autopsy and discover his heart was almost twice the size of a normal horse's heart.

One more thing, his fractions at the Derby got faster with each consecutive 2 furlongs.....that has never been done since. To make a current comparison, Secretariat's time in the Derby would have beaten California Chrome by 25 lengths.....and 9 lengths in the Preakness.

Fastest Belmont Stakes

Secretariat's 1973 Belmont Stakes victory still stands as the track and world record for the mile and one-half distance at 2:24. (He had finished a mile and a quarter at 1:59, faster than his own Derby record of 1:59 2/5.)

The second-fastest clocking is shared by Easy Goer (1989) and A. P. Indy (1992) at 2:26, while Risen Star (1988) and Point Given (2001) hold the fourth-fastest time at 2:26 2/5.

Six Fastest Belmont Stake Races

The following, all on a fast track are the fractional times of the six fastest runnings of the Belmont Stakes:

Year Horse 1/4 M. 1/2 M. 3/4 M. Mile 1 1/4 M. 1 1/2 M.
1973 Secretariat :23 3/5 :46 1/5 1:09 1/5 1:34 1/5 1:59 2:24*

2001 Point Given :23 4/5 :48 1:11 3/5 1:35 2/5 2:00 3/5 2:26 2/5
1992 A.P. Indy :23 1/5 :47 1:11 4/5 1:36 1/5 2:01 1/5 2:26 2/5
1988 Risen Star :23 2/5 :47 1/5 1:11 4/5 1:36 2/5 2:01 3/5 2:26 2/5
1978 Affirmed :25 :50 1:14 1:37 2/5 2:01 3/5 2:26 4/5
Fastest first quarter- 0:23 by Another Review in 1991

I've got a hunch that his strips won't help. The Preakness was a close race. I think he fades down the stretch.

Relax boys and girls, I don't know squat. I'd love to see some history though.

I hear you. Him having it means that it wont be an excuse for a lose though.

I am like you and would enjoy seeing history today

I love horse racing of any type but admittedly know very little about it. Like many, I think the pressure and the distance gets to him but I'd love to see him make history. I remember Smarty Jones and how the horse even looked sad after the race.

Bingo. Although I no longer live in Columbia even though my profile says so. You can use a family members address that's in a gambling state too.
I really hope he pulls it off today, but I can't put money on him. I'll guess Commanding Curve, Wicked Strong, and then Chrome.
