CNN PRODUCER NOTE NASA has confirmed via email that this story is false. A spokewoman for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory says that the largest object detected by NEOWISE measures 3 km in diameter and poses no risk to Earth. The iReport has been removed.

What if it hit the ocean? You think that pacific tsunami was bad? Imagine a 700ft high wall of water hitting every coast around the epicenter of the impact. Not to mention the dust and radiation it will bring and stir up into our atmosphere. We need to develop a weapon strong enough to blow this thing to smithereens. An asteroid that size, will end all life as we know it. Start building now.
I know this has been determined to be fake, but just for the sake of discussion:

I would guess that we probably already have the technology that if something like this were to be headed for Earth we could intercept it with a nuclear payload big enough to knock it off it's course if we couldn't destroy it or break it up into pieces small enough to significantly reduce the risk to our planet. I mean with the massive distance something like this would have to travel we would probably only have to alter it's course by a fraction of a degree to have a significant impact on where it would end up.

This is, of course, purely the speculation of some guy on a message board that doesn't know anything about this sort of thing besides what I've learned from a few hours of Kerbal Space Program.

A stadium-sized asteroid nicknamed ‘Beast’ flew within 777,000 miles of Earth around 2:00 a.m. this Sunday morning. While that may seem like a safe space distance, there are reasons to be absolutely terrified.

Excuse the language and the last couple paragraphs but this is a funny article to tell us how close we actually WERE!! this one wasnt a prank.
