Default 2015 Signee - Toure Boyd

Could be adding him as a commitment soon according to Kornblut.

3 star JC safety from California

http://sports.yahoo.com/highschool/f...re-Boyd-160793

Not the most impressive offer list, but does have offers from Arizona and Utah. Wants to play in the SEC.

http://www.gogamecocks.com/2015/01/0...=/99/113/&rh=1

Impressive highlight tape though. Good closing speed and tackler. Seems to have a nose for the football.

I like it. Nose for the ball. Good tackler. Could play DB or safety...

I hate this juco stuff. One or two per class cool, but this is the kind of recruiting that could come back to haunt in a few years. It's clear to me that the coaching staff is starting to sweat about the incoming class now and trying to patch holes.

Also, getting gets for 2-3 years instead of 4-5 years just tells me the coaches are focused on short term goals now.

They're doing this more out of necessity. When you lose 6-7 commitments you have to plug those holes quick with guys who are ready to play. Plus we're on track to be thin at safety next year and the year after.

Maybe our staff learned after this year that our defense needs some guys who are ready to play NOW and make an impact early. I don't like replacing our stud decommitments with unknown replacements as much as the next guy but from what I see this kid could be a contributor for us.

Short term goals means winning. Winning solves a lot of issues.

It isn't a coincidence this class was one of the best in the country in the Summer after 3 11 win seasons.

I know Spurrier's comment set some stuff off but his comment has only lost us two commits (Fields and Milton.)

Had we won 9-11 ball games this, I think the uncertainty about this program is diminished greatly.

SOS has encouraged a number of seniors who will never play to go ahead and transfer down to a team where they can see the field. This gives us opportunities to really upgrade those spots. It is not like these JUCO guys have just been doing nothing either. They have been practicing and playing and learning the same fundamentals as lower classmen on regular teams. We have needs to fill and this can be a good finger in the dyke. Um, that did not sound exactly right.

Tape looks good, even though it is from JUCO. I like the tenacity he plays with... looks like a football player who isn't scared to hit and brings an attitude to the defense.

Kornblut lists his offer list as: Utah, Arizona, Washington State, Southern Miss, Georgia State and Texas State.

Not exactly the creme of the crop.

Most of our good recruits have only stayed 3 yrs so a juco only having 2-3 yrs probably isnt viewed by our staff as an issue. Given the mess our current class is in, we will have to look @ jucos and other players who WANT to be a Gamecock.

Coach Holtz did a great job with Juco's and turned a winless season around to back to back wins over Ohio State.

Yes it's basically applying a Band-Aid to a large wound, but it does give the program a quick fix until more recruits get in and coached up to replace them.

Also, I like the sound of this kid. A 3 star with a lot of potential that wants to play in the SEC. Well, USC needs a guy like him and he'll fit right in.

Junior college players can help in a number of ways. They can fill holes created by attrition and early draft exits. They can allow staff to fill out rosters with kids who were good enough to get good offers out of high school but lacked grades rather than younger "project" players who are a 4-5 year scholarship commitment these days. They often haven't benefited from the same S&C development or practice rep development as freshman recruits, but they have game experience often coupled with motivation to prove themselves. They've got a short time to make a mark.

Boyd isn't on a lot of teams' radar perhaps, but his film certainly shows a player who seems to want to own the whole field.

Not only that but you get these Juco kids in here for two years and it gives you time to develop these younger guys. They bridge the gap.

Agree. We have a great juco class already. Only big loss was Paris P.

WTS, if we can develop these jucos into NFL players, or just a few, we will keep getting some of the best juco's out there. Especially the ones with southern roots. I think SEC teams are starting to sign more than 2 or 3 a year. seems like it's becoming more and more popular in our league and across the Power 5.

We have not used the JUCO ranks enough imo. Bama and Ole Miss and Miss St go heavily into the JUCO'S. Oregon is a Program that also uses the JUCO's a lot. Glad to see we are using it now. Should have done more of this last year.
