also not interstate per the OP, but, I love how many people around here don't know what to do when a stoplight is out, so they figure that if they're on the "main" road, that means they just have a green light.

go back and read the handbook, peoples! light out = 4 way stop sign. yellow blinkie = your direction has right of way but be cautious.

I really wish SC could install some sort of battery backup on the lights that would make all directions blink red in case of primary power failure so people would have a clue. Instead, it's a free for all and if a car does it right and stops, then a bazillion cars think they now have right of way on the perpendicular road..... UGH!

Here is the rumor after the engineer designed Mal-Function Junction he was sent packing and arrived in Mississippi. Here he promptly designed what is hatefully call the water works curve. As I-55 passes through Jackson Mississippi traffic both north and south have to slow down to about 40 mph to safely negotiate the curve not only to the right but then hard left before resuming the normal interstate speed limit. He is now wanted in the state by almost everyone.
This does not explain totally but you get the idea, the second pic is the almost daily result of the waterworks curve.

I hate the person that speeds up just to prevent you from merging/switching lanes in front of them. This happens often on i-26 at malfunction junction - especially in the morning.

What really pisses me off driving on Houston highways are the dudes toting trailers with lawn gear who get in the far left lame and cruise at about 60. These people have no cares in the world and always have the windows down and an arm out the window. The majority of people that do this are Hispanic and it kind of makes sense because in Mexico you can kind of drive however you want.

Something else that really annoys me are the people who have to merge immediately when two highways come together as if two miles isn't enough distance to get over.

I was driving on the interstate the other morning and my exit ramp is approaching so I begin getting over to the right. As I'm pulling over I see this little Mini Cooper flying up behind me after just merging from the farthest right lane. He then pulls some need for speed maneuver and cuts across three other lanes of highway seemingly without looking. Dangerous as hell and he really could have caused a bad pile up.

Traveling 80 mph in a 70 mph zone is still speeding, regardless of which lane you're in. Also, the idea of slower traffic keeping right isn't meant to be interpreted as "slower than other drivers," but it does mean slower than the posted speed limit.

What drives me nuts is if I'm passing a vehicle (I'm in the left lane now) and I'm going 71 mph according to my speedometer and someone charges up behind me thinking I'm in the wrong for obeying the speed limit, so that person flashes their lights at me. They can wait.

On a related note, did any of you realize you're only supposed to pass when you can do so without exceeding the speed limit?

You reminded me of something that bothers me. I hate when there is some sort of known lane closure that has been clearly marked for several miles, then some jerk stays in that lane as long as they can and tries to force their way over into the traffic. In such a case, I will absolutely do my part to keep that person from merging, because they were trying to get away with not waiting like everyone else.

The worst example of this is when someone knows what's coming, so that person drives in the emergency lane in an attempt to get ahead of as many people as possible. It's always my hope lots of people will band together to keep that jerk on the side of the road.

In a normal merging situation, though, I will definitely let people in.

I hate to be a dick but you are not the nanny of the road, if you pull over in front of someone going faster than you do your best to speed it up a little to get by the person you are passing. The whole they can wait statement illustrates about 90% of the problem. If people would be considerate of the other drivers whether they are going 10 over or what then the roads wouldn't be so terrible.

You're misinterpreting my post. I didn't make it crystal clear, so your mistake is forgiven. I mean if I'm in the process of passing someone and another driver who wasn't there to begin with charges up on me.

So should your post be taken as, "I'm more special than everyone else, so I shouldn't have to wait like them, damn it! If I want to get ahead of the people who did things the right way, then they damn sure better recognize!"

If a faster car comes up on you how hard is it to speed up and clear the car to your right not merrily go 71 to pass a car going 70 and hold up multiple vehicles? You are creating an unsafe situation by causing congestion. You are leaving multiple cars without an out. Believe it or not we all have the power to create space and safety for yourself and everyone on the road. So just because you see it as not speeding by taking your time passing someone if you are causing a congestion then you are creating an unsafe situation that could lead to a wreck. Now by clearing a car quickly merging right and creating space around you and the other cars you helped to create a safe situation.

Now your argument of that well that car was speeding and shouldnt be driving that fast, they can wait. Well two wrongs dont make it right, and while you bunch everyone up something could happen causing a multiple car accident and then how would you feel about your argument?

It amazes me that people who wouldn't dare break in line at theaters, concerts, etc. think nothing of cutting someone off in traffic.

Every driver in the state of California. No one has a clue that you are not supposed to drive in the left hand lane. In all honesty, the far right hand lane is often the fastest lane on the highway.

This is wrong and the cause of most traffic issues on the interstate. Argue it any way you want, but you are in the wrong.

sorry, no, he's not. If he is passing, then he should be in left lane.... others can wait behind so long as actively passing... even if only 1 mph over the other guy! Now, as soon as he can see 2 headlights of the car he passed in his rearview, then get the hell out of the way as the train comes through.... but, when actively passing, he doesn't have to speed up just so he doesn't slow them down.

btw, where is the 'like' button? so many of these are spot on.... and, gotta agree, it's amazing the number of vehicles sold these days with optional turn signals. I've had those installed on EVERY car I've driven, but I see LOTS that apparently wouldn't shell out the extra for it. Either that or they ran out of blinker fluid and the damn things just don't work anymore.....
