Jordan was the first player to make over 30 million a year his last 2 years in Chicago...He did not make over 4 million a year before that, not sure that is entirely true.

How many rings does Reggie have?

The whole notion of team loyalty for professional athletes is odd, but a lot of fans seem to really care about it.
Fans care about winning, those same fans would be begging for a player they did not draft to come to town via free agency if it would bring their team a title. I can tell you star athletes with a title are viewed as a better then counterparts without, look at Dan Marino, Barry Sanders, Sir Charles....the list goes on and on! I doubt you will find one Green Bay fan who has any qualms with Brett Favre not being drafted by the Packers or one Vikings fan that would have been upset if Favre had won them a title.

Houston is not in the running IMO. They have 4 guys signed that will eat up the 66mil $ salary cap.

22mil Dwight
15mil Harden
15mil Lin
15mil Asik

The Lin and Asik 1year contracts would need to be unloaded to afford Lebron. No one is going to buy that kind of crap contract for average players.

He's already a "ring chaser". I like LeBron, the greatest player in the world. He has his goal of getting as many rings as he can. Reggie Miller doesn't have 1 and a couple of Finals appearances. That said, I wouldn't bet against Pat Riley. Opting out gives James the ability to take less money, for more talent. He already makes 70mil a year, just in endorsements. Financial stability is not an issue. If Wade and Bosh were to opt out, this will definitely help the Heat with cap room.

Could the stars (pun intended) align and Melo come to Miami. I'm not going to put it past the Heat/Riley to make it happen, IF the big 3 will work their deals into bringing him there. Really, they need a 4th scoring option. Bosh/Wade struggled horribly throughout the finals. Also may want a defensive big. They were one of the worst rebounding teams in the league this year.

Why would they take Melo over Lebron?

Bulls have room for one max guy.

"If I wanted to be greedy, I could make a lot more money," said Jordan. "I'm not a greedy person. But I like to get paid for what I'm worth. I like to make what I deserve. But I never try to overdo it. If I really wanted to make a lot of money and spread myself thin, I could do it. I could make $15,000 or $20,000 an appearance or sign basketballs for $50 a ball.

"If I was greedy, I could do that. Or I could sit here and cry about my contract, make it a big issue. And it would be a valid argument. I don't do that. I have never griped about other people making money. Hot Rod Williams made his money? Good. He was in position to do that.

"(Jon) Koncak made his $2.5 million a year? Good. I mean, you only fall into certain situations once in a lifetime, and he took advantage of it. I can't fault him for that. Anybody in the same situation, even if they couldn't pick up a basketball, would have done the same thing and I wouldn't fault them. No way."
http://www.nba.com/jordan/hoop_phenomenon.html

Main point I was trying to make is Jordan never cared as much about money as he did about competing and winning. Chicago was the perfect spot for him, he said as much in the same article:

Quote:
"It was the perfect fit for me," said Jordan. "I'm glad I ended up in Chicago. I was in the right place at the right time."
As much as he was paid, he was "underpaid" considering the value he brought to the Bulls.

That could work, but he'd have to live near DC. The Wiz have the cap space, but their bench would absolutely suck.

13.7 Wall
4.5 Beal
4.5 Otto Porter
21 Lebron
13 Nene

57 million total with 8-10 million to pay Andre Miller and Martell Webster. Probably can't fill out a decent roster with whatever they'd be willing to spend in luxury tax territory.

15mil for Lin and 15mil for Asik are embarrassingly bad deals. 15mil for Harden is steep too.... Harden is a marginal ball player.

There really are a number of teams James could realistically sign with. It will be really interesting to see how all of the big name free agents shake out.

Who would have 28 million to waste on those 2 guys? Houston would have to buy some bad contracts to pull that off. Mortgaging the future would not interest Lebron at all.

Lin and Asik both only made 4 million last season, and their contracts both jumped to this ridiculous number for their last year. Maybe this was part of the Dwight trade? They are going to suffer for that decision.

I think if the Cavs would've hired Mark Jackson no doubt LeBron would go back. Don't know if he wants to play for an unproven coach.

Right, but they'd be trading longterm contracts that are relatively expensive to the Rockets in exchange. That doesn't really help Houston out very much. Lebron would not come into a situation where a team has no flexibility after the first year because of bad contracts. He is looking for his final stop, where they will be good for at least 3-5 years.
