Default Mangus Talks Recruiting

http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/rec...-talks-to-sds/

1. SDS’ MCLAUGHLIN: Coach, what would you say is on the minds of QB recruits—particularly from our part of the country in the southeast. The ones who more than likely will end up in the SEC. And what has changed in recent years?:

MANGUS: “Well, kids in general want to put up numbers and be in an offense where they can put up those numbers. I think what I see more with kids is they want to get to the NFL, and they want to play in a system that can get them to that ultimate goal. They’re very knowledgeable now about everybody’s particular system, what it can and cannot do and how they would fit into that system.

2. SDS’ MCLAUGHLIN: What do you think of the growing egos of recruits these days, with all of the attention they get from media, fans and coaches? How much has that changed since you got into coaching?:

MANGUS: “It has changed. There are a lot of reasons for that. There are a lot of people talking to them and how they go about things. In our case, that’s why it is so big to get them on campus and get around them. To get in depth and get to know the intangibles about that kid—that’s the most important thing. It’s as much a part of it as managing the stuff on the turf. That’s what’s important to us, to Coach Spurrier. There’s a balance you have to find. You want somebody with confidence who has that Velcro personality, but the only way to recognize that is to be around them. Is it ego, or is it confidence? Where is that fine line? It’s an inexact science, that’s for sure. With us not being able to be in the house until December of their senior year, we just have to get them on campus.”

Thanks for the link. Always interesting to hear from the coaches.

Considering how much earlier the recruiting calendar now is, it makes you wonder why the in-homes are not allowed until December?
