Default Post-Connor Effect

I've been seeing several people on here criticize Dylan for the way he's played so far and calling for him to be benched after 2 games.

This is called the Post-Connor Effect. It's thinking 1 player is much worse than he actually is, because he followed one of the all time greats. Connor Shaw was a fantastic decision maker, ball protector, and all out winner. He threw 1 pick last year. I think people on here were expecting Dylan to go out and be as good, if not better, than the best QB in school history.

So far Dylan has been pretty solid--45-78 for 632 yards, 5 TD and 2 INT.

Is he perfect? No. But he's the best QB we have and while he's no Shaw and he's done well enough to keep his fan support.

I just find it funny that Dylan of all people is the first guy people criticize when we have much bigger problems on the D-Line and in the secondary. When Dylan can't wrap up Gurley and Chubb next week don't throw him under the bus.

He is very inconsistent throwing non-lob passes. He also is a beat late on timing routes. He had a few nice zingers (one laser out route for 15 yards and one over the middle), but he had more than a few hanging curves that could've been disastrous.

Dylan is giving his all, but you can see in his eyes he isn't fully confident the way he has been in the past. I believe there are some throws he doesn't want to make. He also seems to pick his target before the snap and rarely changes his mind. He did pull off the short route to hit Brent for the TD.

He will get better I believe.

We were spoiled by Connor.... I miss the ability to run for a first down when no one is open

Remember this about Dylan, although he has been in the program 5 years, he doesn't hasn't played a bunch of snaps much less have a bunch of starts under his belt. He is still learning how to be a starting QB. He is going to get better.

We have to wait until after the UK game to make a decision whether or not he needs to be the QB all season IMO.

Shaw played inconsistent at best in big road games. He was only money at home.

I think it has a lot to do with unrealistic expectations people had for Thompson. The things he's being knocked for are issues he's had his entire career here and I never understood why people thought he was going to all of a sudden fix these issues. He's a good college QB that needs a lot of help from the players around him and will be at his best when he's asked to do the least.

True, but some of hiss issues are decision making. Not unrealistic for a 5th year guy to make better decisions. Fundamentals are still off but they were when he got here. Later in the game he did much better but I think that had more to do with play calling which improved as well and helped his percentage. Expectations were overly high with what he is capable of especially without a true dominating receiver or go to guy like we've had in the past.

i just wish he would quit locking his leg when he throws. This tends to have a QB throw high passes.

He seemed to have finally got his game face on in the second half.

A well thrown deep ball that's close enough to be caught but isn't because of a defensive pass interference call is the same as a reception. It just doesn't burn time off the clock the way the usual third down completions moving down the same amount of yardage.

That's something he has in his back pocket that the other QBs may not have.

He had an uncomfortable, skeered look on his face in both games until the second half last night. It seems like he's finally gotten confident and settled in.

I think some of his throwing problems have been because he's nervous and tight.
