Summerville QB Getting USC Interest
By Phil Kornblut USC is showing early interest in QB Reid McCollum (6-3 205) of Summerville. McCollum passed for 2787 yards with 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season. He completed 155 of 270 pass attempts. "He's a real good student and a good thinker on the field," said Summerville coach John McKissick. "He's a pleasure to coach. He's tall and has a good, strong arm and a quick release. He picks out receivers good." Wake Forest, Georgia and Georgia Tech also are showing early interest in McCollum. http://www.goupstate.com/apps/pbcs.d...008/-1/PSPORTS |

That'd be good to get some interest from him, doesn't AJ Green play for Summerville?

He and his family have been longtime gamecock club members. If spurrier offers and pursues him, then he's gamecock.

I went to the same high school as this guy and let me tell you, he's an athlete. The guy obviously plays football. He also played basketball and baseball. He quit basketball somtime after his freshman year and played in a local rec. league. My time was beating his by about 16 points midway through the game and he dropped like 35 points in 20 minutes. This was after he was pitching in a baseball game for the Summerville Greenwave. Everybody talks about how AJ Green made Reid so good. Instead, they should be talking about how good Reid made AJ. Trust me, this guy can play.

McCollom Takes In USC Junior Day
By Phil Kornblut QB Reid McCollum (6-3 205) of Summerville attended USC's junior day last Saturday. "I spoke with coach Spurrier for a second and with coach Reaves," McCollum said. "They want me to come in for a practice this spring and maybe sit in on a quarterback meeting." McCollom also has been to junior days at Wake Forest, Duke and NC State. "I really like the campus and the whole atmosphere at Wake Forest," he said. "South Carolina has always been one of my favorites since I grew up a big Carolina fan." McCollom also is hearing from Virginia Tech, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida State, Alabama and Georgia Tech. He plans to attend as many one day camps this summer as he can. And he is working with highly regarded quarterback guru Jerry Nettles of Florence. |

What is the skinny of this guy? I hear from some people that he is a legit D1 QB, but others say that he doesnt have the intangibles and AJ Green is the reason he is sought after. How does he match up with the other QB's on our board (Hanson, Sunseri, etc)?

he's a good QB, or else the teams that knew they had no chance with green (ga tech, wake forest, etc...) would not be showing interest

McCollum would be best for an offense like Clemson's, IMO.. I didn't really see Summerville really stretch the field when they played, just a lot of short to medium passes. But that was only one game, so...

he's a decent qb but if it were'nt for aj green making some outstanding grabs of errant passes his stats wouldn't be nearly as good.

prolly true but man he had some really nice passes and thats what you do when you have a great wr like that, that is tall and can get up and catch it, something blake is great at doing with SR. Now we are loaded with 6'3-6'5 WR so hey he can fit right in.

Going by the Post and Courier the state's top QB next year will be John Carnell of Hanahan High School. Carnell was named the #1 QB in the state by the Post and Courier (the newspaper near where he and McCollum live (the one others consider to be the #1)). I know that he has been put on the elite 11 watch list which is the list that the 12 elite 11 QBs are chosen from and he has also been put on a few other recruiting web sites hot lists. He is pretty good sized 6-2 210 and his brother plays QB here at the Citadel. Right now SC is his favorite and he is just waiting for an offer. In 2006 he passed for 3200 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Now, why rivals doesn't have him I can't say, but I am assuming it is just because it is still early.__________________
