Two UT football players Dismissed from the team!

KNOXVILLE – Tennessee linebacker Dorian Davis and defensive back Antonio Wardlow were dismissed from the team by Coach Phillip Fulmer Wednesday for an undisclosed violation of team rules, the school released in a statement.

A message left for Fulmer was not immediately returned.

Davis and Wardlow, both sophomores, were not starters but did play significant roles for the Vols this season. Davis played in 12 games and had 15 tackles and one forced fumble. Wardlow played in 13 games and had a memorable play on UT’s final defensive play of the season. Wardlow intercepted a pass with less than one minute remaining against Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla., Jan. 1 to secure UT’s victory.

Davis was involved with police earlier this season while visiting his hometown of Iowa City, Iowa. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct following a physical altercation with another man, a police report said.

Fulmer did not publicly announce any disciplinary action but in the following weeks, Davis did not play against Mississippi State or Alabama. Davis played in the other 12 of UT’s games.

I hate to see young men throw opportunities away and have to give up on a dream. Just seems like these kids are taking for granted the abilities they have. Their future is so bright if they work hard and keep their head straight. Just sad.

This is a pretty low and classless thing to say. These are two men that have ruined any chance of having a successful football career and you are happy about it.

I agree... and the sad thing about it is, that there will likely be no end in the near future with these kids getting big heads...

first of all, you know some other school will swoop in and take them, so it's not like they're done forever.

secondly, they didn't catch a disease or suffer an injury or something. they broke the law (at least one of them did) and now they are suffering the consequences.

Wardlow, a sophomore from Winston-Salem, N.C., saved the Vols' win over Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl with an interception on the 1-yard line with less than a minute left.
It was not immediately known why Wardlow was dismissed. He was one of three Vols arrested after a fight outside a Knoxville nightclub in November 2006.
Davis, a sophomore who played in 16 games at Tennessee, mostly on special teams, was cited for fighting in his Iowa hometown in October.
According to Iowa City police, Davis got into a verbal altercation with the friend of an acquaintance and then pushed him and struck him. Davis was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct but released without going to jail.

I agree with you....this is something they COULD control and they chose not to. It's their own fault...and it is fun seeing UT keep having these issues...shows the kind of kids they go after. Not that we don't have our own issues though.

wardlow i heard from some people in winston-salem where im from and he's from was considering transferring to usc to be with his cousin Alonzo Winfield but i doubt spurrier would take him now

I'd disagree here. I think Spurrier would probably take him. Remember that these are youngsters who have probably been treated like minor royalty since they were in pop warner leagues. They get special treatment in high school and being minors, their teachers/the local cops and pretty much everyone else gives them every chance to succeed. It's quite natural for them to think that this is going to continue, and let's face it, 18-20 year old jocks are not generally known for thinking things through. Wardlow really got a bloody nose from this, but that doesn't mean he can't have a second chance. Spurrier is pretty good at giving them and IMO has a pretty good sense of when to let things go and when to cut his losses (and the player). So I can see SS giving this guy a shot, but keeping him on a short leash.
