They haven't had a quarterback since Rivers left. Strong on defense but not much offense. You don't have a quarterback either. I see a defensive struggle and a toss up. Nobody wins by more than a touchdown. I haven't made up my mind yet who wins this one. You never know on the first game of the year.

I see USC winning this one comfortably (2 TDs). Granted NC State had a pretty good class this year, but I can't see them hanging with USC for a whole game (especially the 1st game). I could definately be wrong though.
There are some interesting parallels between the Clemson 1st game and the USC 1st game this year. Both teams will be favored to win. Both teams need to win these games and win them comfortably to establish themselves as good teams. In both cases, a loss will spell trouble for the rest of the season (especially for USC), but a win will not really tell us much. This is a situation that's just begging for an upset. I wouldn't be surprised if either Clemson or USC loses the 1st game. |

I don't agree with your statement about a win not meaning much. I think a CU win means a lot for you guys because I would definitely put Bama ahead of NC State. A win over Bama is saying something. A win over NC State just says a win over a non-conference foe.

So you have a tough team that has looked like crap for a while. Add in an unproven (but very highly ranked) class. That spells trouble for us. I think Clemson will be favored to win and even worse EXPECTED to win on a national stage (possible ESPN gameday). So if we win no biggy, but if we lose, we'll be written off. |

That is true. I never thought about that.
. But it adds to their argument of "weak ACC" and makes the conference look bad. |

there is no "weak ACC argument". It's a fact pointed out by any knowledgeable fan of the game. Alabama is much more talented than NC State, and will be a tough game for y'all. I don't know who will win that game but it should be a good one. If we lose to NC State, it would be a very bad loss.

I think we win by 2 touchdowns. I dont think it will be a cake walk but I truly think our coaches will have us playing focused and sharp in the first game. I cant base this on anything in peticular but I am confident we will see very good execution. I just hope that (1) we win the first two and (2) those game serve as a great foundation for how we play in the oh-so-pivotal GA game. We always seem to save a good bit of the playbook for UGA and I hope we do this year. we will need to have confidence and consistancy among the team in order upset them. NCSU = Win in my book.

believe me, though they don't look so good right now, those years under Bear have given them laurels to rest upon for quite awhile...
...they've got quite a tradition, 12 NCs to be exact, they even won a NC under Stallings ('92)... ...a win over Bama will be a GREAT win for you

I see the Bama/ Clemson game to play out like the USC/ Clemson games over the past few years. A very close game decided in the last minute or so. There is no doubt Clemson has a very talented offense, but their defense has taken some huge hits with graduation and recent attrition for other reasons. I think this is a great match up.
As far as USC/ NC State, USC should win this game easily. However, we have to remember this is a season opener so anything goes. O'Brien is a good fundamentals coach, however, the cupboards at NC State are still bare. I don't think the talent as NC State comes anywhere near what is at Carolina right now. Give O'Brien a year or two and he will have NC State back on the way up. |

I've seen Alabama mentioned as being a contender in the West. I can't understand why based on their season last year. The only reason they went to a bowl and we didn't is because of their proximity to the bowl site and because they are Alabama. Clemson plays them first and should handle them pretty easily. If they don't, then their top ten ranking is bogus. What will be even funnier is when Clemson loses to NCSU a few weeks after we drub them.

NCState game will in fact be a good game, imo
People want to say we blow them out....I just don't see it Tom O'Brian is a hell of a coach. NCState has talent. It will be our first game with a brand new starter at QB (Assuming Beecher starts).

I belive that clempson and Carolina folks seem to forget that Carolinas D will be very very good this year.......10 starters were outta the line up on D last year due to injuries by the time the clempson game came around and a lot of the young players got a lot of playing time that will equate into a lot of depth for Carolina on D...........Offense is a QB away from 10 wins as long as the O-line blocks......Have as many weapons in skill positions as clempson...clempson has the edge at TB but cant come close to the WRs and TE that Carolina has.......and clempsons O-line will be as suspect as Carolinas was last year........................clempson should have a good year with the scheduling they have and can win 7 to 8 ball games just because of talent alone.......D will be solid but that Pop Corn offense Spence calls will be exposed again for what it really is.......Bammer 21..clempson...17...........Carolina 28...NC State...10
