Hyman's Seafood in Charleston...
Love it, Hate it, or Never been? http://www.hymanseafood.com/ Personally, I think it's overrated. Decent food but for Charleston there are tons of other seafood places that are much better, cheaper, and don't have super long lines.

Horrible place. Tourist trap. Avoid at all costs.
Hank's is good. Coast is pretty good. Fleet Landing has a sweet waterfront setting. Boat House on Sullivans is good. Hell- go to Crosby's buy the fish youself and cook it at home. That'd be way better than Hymans.

There should be an "indifferent" option in the poll. I think it is okay but probably more overrated than anything...if I am in Charleston, I feel like there are much better options. It is mainly a tourist hot spot.

It's ok. After you wait in line for an hour you'll be hungry enough to like anything. S.N.O.B. is great.

overrated IMO...I prefer a local spot to a tourist trap like Hyman's. It is the place that tourist books tell you to go, which lowers my opinion of the place.

Hyman's has horrible frozen seafood and "locally" caught frozen shrimp from Korea. If you are from Charleston or are planning to visit there, don't be fooled by their brilliant marketing tactics. Oh, the reason that there is always a line is because even in the slow season they will block off the upstairs to make the place look busier. It's really a smart idea though. If you want good seafood here are a few:
Hank's SNOB High Cotton Fat Hen (John's Island) Cypress Water's Edge (MTP) |

That is 100% true. I had a friend who worked there in the late 90's and he told me all about the place.

Hyman's is good, but they claim to use all local stuff and not cheaper substitutes, which isn't true.
Shem Creek Bar and Grill is meh IMO. |
